Hello,

I’ve never personally met a Roman. Is it popular in your location? My husband and I like it a lot but not sure about the popularity.

thanks everyone x

In my area this was on the top 20 list .
There are 2 in my 5 year olds class. Along with a Romeo and Rome.
Its quite a neddy name where I am

Really popular here. I like it but prefer Rowan. Ended up having a girl so couldn't use neither anyway 😂

I know a little girl called Rowan. I think it's a pretty name for a girl!

Woahthehorsey · 03/04/2024 20:32

Greater Manchester, fairly popular here. I know of at least 3.

BrendaSmall · 03/04/2024 20:55

We had 1 Roman where I live and now you hear at least 1 Roman every 3/4 boys born, its getting very common

Coffeeandcocktails · 03/04/2024 20:58

I know of 4 Romans all aged 4 and under in my local area. I think it’s a name that’s slowly getting more popular. I’ve seen a lot more Rome’s recently too!

Emsbutterfly · 03/04/2024 21:58

I love this name and my son was very nearly called it! It’s quite popular in my area though (east London)

Mamabear487 · 03/04/2024 22:06

I love it. Wanted to call my little boy that name but partner vetoed it

@KirstenBlest @Moreteaandchocolate @WaltzingWaters I didn’t ask for your opinion on whether you liked the name. I couldn’t care about that! I just wanted to know if it was popular

ive noticed on MN people can be so snooty about names.

Such an uncalled for and aggressive response OP. Maybe they didn't read the thread properly as a lot of people post to get an opinion on a name, not its popularity.

Anyway, I agree with them Biscuit

3springersandababy · 04/04/2024 06:52

I know 4 born within the last year! I guess it’s becoming more popular.

Beachs · 04/04/2024 06:53

I worked in a campsite with lots of children from all over doing there Duke of Edinburgh or school trips. Lots of Roman, Rowan, Ronan’s.

I don’t know if it bothers you, but personally depending on what part of the country they were from the name sounded either nice or chavvy as hell and it’s not a name I would have ever said was chavvy on paper. Sadly there were more chavvy Roman/Rowan/Ronan’s than there were nice sounding ones.

Kikisweb · 04/04/2024 07:16

I know 3 Romans, 2 about 7 the other is a toddler.

SnapdragonToadflax · 04/04/2024 07:20

Popular here, I know of a few in my son's school and at clubs.

I much prefer Rowan, personally.

Imisssleep2 · 04/04/2024 07:54

I know 2, one from a playgroup and my cousin's little boy is called it too. Based in Hertfordshire

Veggievic · 04/04/2024 08:39

I worked with one in his late 20s absolutely lovely guy so I have good associations with the name! He was part Russian and I think it’s a lot more common from that part of the world. The only other 2 I know of are Kemp and Abramovich. Definitely check the latest stats to see whether it’s suddenly getting common for LOs.

cassy16 · 04/04/2024 09:23

That’s because they are all under 10 it’s actually quite a trendy name over the last few years that and Rome

KirstenBlest · 04/04/2024 11:06

Funny how OP hasn't criticised people giving a positive opinion on the name.

EmmaInScotland · 04/04/2024 13:15

A teacher friend called her son Roman, he'd be mid 20s by now. Didn't want a name that she'd ever taught, so it was a bit of a challenge!

LadyVorkosigan · 04/04/2024 13:46

It's a perfectly ordinary name in Poland and other Slavic countries. It's pronounced with a short o - Romman, not Rowman.

It's definitely becoming very popular. I know a few pre school Romans, and I hear it a lot when at soft plays etc; again, all boys of under five.

Suburban Oxfordshire here - I don’t know any 😀

A few in inner London for me. I don’t know any boys/men with Slavic heritage though, just English.
