Hello,

I’ve never personally met a Roman. Is it popular in your location? My husband and I like it a lot but not sure about the popularity.

thanks everyone x

It’s very popular in our areas for babies / toddlers
(north London)

LemonJuice92 · 28/03/2024 19:19

3 in my daughters nursery class - so it’s very popular here.

BoleynMemories13 · 29/03/2024 14:02

It's very trendy at the moment. If you're not aware of any in your area yet I bet you'll hear it loads over the next few years. It was rapidly on the rise up to the latest ONS release in 2021 and I am still hearing it lots so I'm guessing it's still rising. It must be top 20 by now.

Sundaysunshine21 · 29/03/2024 14:23

I think it’s maybe more popular in the Midlands/North, I know of a few little Romans through my friends/family who live there. Never heard of one in London. It could just be pure coincidence though.

NC2025 · 29/03/2024 16:58

Personally I don’t know anyone called Roman :)

whosaidtha · 29/03/2024 17:17

I know a few. I think it sounds like a gladiator.

Roryhon · 29/03/2024 20:11

I know a couple. I don’t think it’s very nice. The latest one I know is in Yorkshire and it sounds even worse in that accent! (my accent before anyone says I’m being anti yorks!).

Bigearringsbigsmile · 29/03/2024 20:13

I know 1 9year old roman.
North west

amz4 · 30/03/2024 11:35

There are 4 Romans in my daughters school (Primary)

StainlessSeal · 30/03/2024 15:57

My DH's name. He's Polish and it is a very common name for older males there. Tis a lovely name!

wingsofabird · 31/03/2024 13:47

It's extremely popular and trendy @BostonMA
if you go on the dark greener site you can see the graph of official stats, Roman is one of the TOP fastest rising boy names there is in recent years 📈📈📈and is still rising. If you wanted a name that's even slightly unusual or if popularity is a factor - Roman is a name to avoid for sure!

onwardandupwards · 31/03/2024 14:06

I have a 3 year old Roman, he's the only one in playschool of around 95 children

TheBottomsOfMyTrousersAreRolled · 31/03/2024 14:08

I dont know any but there is one on TOWIE

EnterNowhere · 31/03/2024 14:29

I really like the name, but it is quite popular where I am (South Wales). My cousin has a Roman who is 8 and I know 4 others who are all 4 and under.

Ah lovely! I knew it had polish or European roots

Yes very common where I work in a nursery and we have 3 at the moment. It also reminds me of a song which is rude and I can't print on social media

Abbie22222 · 03/04/2024 11:21

I really love it, I don't know any though. We're N Yorks, and as someone else mentioned, our accent really wouldn't do the name any favours!
Think it's likely to have risen when the latest stats come out, due to the popularity of succession.

Azandme · 03/04/2024 11:23

TeaPleaseX · 28/03/2024 14:41

Really popular here. I like it but prefer Rowan. Ended up having a girl so couldn't use neither anyway 😂

I know a couple of girls called Rowan. I think it works for both.

Azandme · 03/04/2024 11:23

My driving instructor was called Roman. I learnt to drive in 1995.

JRM17 · 03/04/2024 11:25

My mum's next door neighbours middle child is called Roman. Then there is Roman Kemp on Radio 1. So I'd say its likely more popular than u think.

Isthisthisreallife · 03/04/2024 11:28

Roman’s I know of seem to be on the ‘chav’ side of life. So IMO it’s a chavvy name. I think Rowan is a lovely alternative and isn’t too common where I’m from

DangerousAlchemy · 03/04/2024 11:37

My DS has a friend called Roman - he's 16. Apart from that I've never heard of any other kids/adults round here by that name.

TheCatsHaveLostTheirMittens · 03/04/2024 12:21

We live in the Home Counties, from my children’s acquaintances and friends I know of several boys called Rowan (and the odd girl too) as well as a lad called Romain (French origin of the name). I only know a couple of Romans - both are adults
