Spanish/Greek Inspired Girls Names

Sofia and Lucia (pronounced Loo-see-ah)
What do you think?

Love Spanish and Greek inspired names - with the sunshine/warmth/mediterrean feel. Love holidaying in both places and would love a holiday home in either destination at some point in the future.
Names have to be short, my boys name is top 5, 4 letters and doesn't get shortened. I know nicknames are inevitable but I prefer names far less likely to be shortened.
Do also like Olympia and Athena but think they might be a bit out there.

Also quite like Romy. Has greek links, means dew of the sea. But not sure if it will get mispronounced, rom-ee/ro-me.

I prefer Lucia of your two choices simply because it's less common. Personally I prefer Lucy or both of your alternatives. I have a 12yr old Olympia (I have greek heritage). She mainly gets called Olly, which most people assume is short for Olivia.

I love both names - they do feel sunny and warm! Lucia has the advantage of being less commonly used, if that’s important to you?

Romy is a beautiful name too.

I think that if you like the names Sofia and Lucia you should go for the English versions - Sophia or Sophie or Lucy. It's pretentious and pointless to use Euro spellings.

My favourite would be Lucia. I'm from a Scandinavian country where we celebrate the day of Saint Lucia on the 13th of December. It is to celebrate light and love during a very dark time of the year.

A granddaughter of the former queen of Denmark is named Athena, Countess Athena of Monpezat. Her mother is French and her father is Danish.

How about something like Coralie. I believe that coral is a Greek word.

A Spanish lady I used to work with was called Nuria (pronounce NOO-R-EE-A) and I always likes this name.

Lucia with your pronunciation is my favourite. Also love Athena, don’t think it’s out there. I know a Cypriot lady called Athena.

We had a young woman living locally named Penthia which she claimed was a Greek name, or inspired by Greek language. Not sure of that is the kind of name you are considering?

Like Sofia, dislike Lucia, love Romy (though share your concern re. pronunciation issues)

In which country do you live? Lucia is actually pronounced loo-thee-ah in standard Spanish and your pronunciation in southern regions and Latin America but a lot of people in Britain pronounce it the Italian way loo-chee-ah or are unsure. Sofia is straight forward and beautiful and meaningful too. I agree Nuria is beautiful and also straightforward. Inés is beautiful too but most likely will be wrongly stressed in the first syllable. Noa is popular in Spain for girls but in UK usually a boys name. Anthea is pretty, probably nothing to do with Athena or Greece though. Maria is a classic. Lola? Alma is beautifully sounding and meaningful and also straightforward to say and write.

Mariana would have been my daughter's name if I'd have had one! Maria would be my second choice, absolute classic. Ines is beautiful

Well it’s short for Dolores which means pains but I’ve never really associated it with that meaning in itself, I’ve only ever seen it as just a name!

I have an Inés, and her name is 100% mispronounced by all; she now answers to anything remotely close.
