Is Linda due a comeback?

My aunt is called Linda (nn Linny) and I just love it. It kind of fits with the trend for old fashioned names but is it not old fashioned enough yet?

Tbh I haven't checked it's position on the baby names ranking...I've never heard of a baby Linda/Linny though. Yep, there were only 18 baby Lindas in 2020 so not popular!

I like Linda and Belinda (and Linny). I agree that Linda might not come back into fashion for another 15-20 years, though.

I know an Australian Belinda whose nickname is Bindi, so if you went for that she’d have a choice of nicknames.

I like it, I associate it with Scandinavian names due to my childhood friend in Denmark being called that.

In the UK it’s similar to names like Barbara which I love.

I know 7 Lindas. My sister, dh aunty, a neighbour, a lady I care for, my exes mum, and 2 school teachers. All 50-60 yo, cropped dyed hair (6 blonde, one changes every month). All stocky and in low paid teaching or caring roles, and all slight miserable to absolutely nasty. I’m going to sound judgemental af because these are not bad things to judge people on, but I can’t imagine having a baby girl and calling it Linda above every other name in the world

Oh no!!

Linda is in her 60s with badly bleached hair. She's a nice lady but quite downtrodden and works in a greasy spoon. Don't do it!!!

BertieBotts · 09/03/2024 17:35

You should use it if you like it.

I think it's unlikely to become a top 100 name for about 20-30 years yet. Most of the Lindas are in their 50s-70s.

What a horrible, judgemental thing to say about a name. Linda is a particularly cool and fresh name, to me. The only adult Lindas I know are extremely well educated, elegant professional people.

DontGiveADuck · 09/03/2024 18:35

No it’s such a dull name.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 09/03/2024 18:41

I think it's a nice name. An option would be to go for Melinda or Belinda with Linda as nickname.

I know a 4 year old Linda
