Expecting a little girl after two boys.
I like the names...

Nina
Louisa
Orla
Erin
Lyra

Only one my husband agrees on is Orla.

Also like names like Sophia, Aria but ruling them out on popularity... definitely looking for something outside the top 30.

Surname ends in y so don't like the sound of names ending ie or y with it.
Any suggestions?

Love Nina and Louisa.

whereimfrom · 13/02/2024 21:38

I'd vote Aria (my daughters name)
It's a lot less popular than orla I know loads of them but not as many Aria's.

Onelife2024 · 13/02/2024 21:45

What a lovely list of names! I really like them all!
All of them are lovely, short, simple, good for all ages. I think my favourite is Lyra. Least favourite is Orla. Louisa is so lovely but she will get “Lou” at times, if you don’t mind that?

Other ideas -

Iris
Mila
Thea
Clara
Cora
Seren
Mara
Megan

I have a Sophia and always get compliments on it, I know it’s always in the top 10 but you really don’t come across too many other children in real life called it. Love all your list though, Nina is especially cute. Congratulations on your little girl, her big brothers will be so in love x

Galeforcewindatmywindow · 13/02/2024 22:11

Not an anagram of oral....

Ah thanks. I like the nickname Lou actually, but my husband is not keen at all, or on my absolute favourite Nina. 😥

He did just suggest Cora which I don't mind too much, but I don't like as much as the others. I like Iris too. He's just vetoing everything!

Maybe Eloise as an alternative to Louisa, less likely to become Lou? I met an Anya today and thought that was nice and it seems to fit in your list

MaloneMeadow · 13/02/2024 22:43

I love Lyra! Would you use lie-ra or the Irish lee-rah pronunciation?

wineosaurus4 · 13/02/2024 22:53

I have a little Nina (20 months), everyone who meets her comments on how lovely her name is. I'm still so glad we chose it and yet to meet another. Our other option was Orla which I see is also on your list but I felt just a bit too popular Smile

ChocolateCinderToffee · 13/02/2024 23:05

Nina is lovely, so is Louisa. What about Carlota?

lunarodgers · 13/02/2024 23:07

We have similar taste I think OP!

My faves on your list are Nina and Louisa.

I also love Cora, Georgia, Anna, and Stella, if any of those help!

KayEmAy · 14/02/2024 00:15

My favorites on your list are Lyra and Erin -I also really like Aria, I wish it wasn't so popular

Based on your list:

Odette
Aurora
Jessica
Eden
Anya
Hope
Alexandra
Phoebe
Alina
Brooke
Rosalie
Addison
Veda/Vada
Bianca
Demi
Amanda
Josie/Josette
Marina
Tess(a)
Gwen
Noelle / Noa / Nell

Also -I noticed in another comment you mentioned your husband likes to veto lol A "rule" I've recommended that's worked for some of my friends with picky partners, is 'no free vetoes' if he wants to veto a name, he has to suggest one in it's place. If not then the name stays. At least for my friend, it made her feel like her preferences were being considered and she wasn't being backed into a one sided compromise.

Aila?

NachosAndCheese · 14/02/2024 08:35

I would say that Orla is also massively popular.

I would say that Orla is also massively popular.

I have seen that said on a few threads but I only know one in our area (and I work with a LOT of kids under 10) and it's quite far down the name list.

Some suggestions are much more out-there than we are 🤣. Definitely thinking fairly traditional, established name just one that's not too popular hopefully!

Lots of lovely names suggested I have already said to DH but he's ruled out. So I've told him he needs to write a list. There are so many I like!

Louisa is a beautiful name as is Lou 😊

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/02/2024 15:00

If he likes Cora would Nora, Dora, or Laura be the compromise.

DuchessOfSausage · 14/02/2024 15:30

Nina - like
Louisa - like
Orla - not keen. Nice in a rhotic accent, but not when said as 'All a'
Erin - not keen
Lyra - don't like. Too similar to all the other L- names

Anjea · 14/02/2024 15:48

Elouise is nice too

Anjea · 14/02/2024 15:49

Lyra is too close to liar but others are okay
