Hi, we’re expecting a baby boy in a few weeks and finding it so hard to find a name we both like. Hugo is as close as we’ve come and while I do like it, a quick search on here has shown me it’s not super popular. The posh vibes don’t bother me but wondering if there were alternatives someone could recommend that we could look at. I love Rafa (Rafael) but husband says absolutely no. Also like Leo, Luca and Felix but they seem a bit meh. Any suggestions welcome & also if anyone has a Hugo, let me know you don’t regret your decision 😂 thank you!

Love it but it’s on a steep upward trend and when we finally get the 2022 data I think it will have jumped again. Depends on whether popularity is an issue!

We have a Hugo who's 5. Name isn't very popular in this area, I only know of one other. We still love his name and it has the added advantage now he's at school of being short and easy to spell 🙂

Love this name. Very masculine!

Family name (and one ancestor with it was also called Baskerville, but fortunately a long time before Sherlock Holmes)

Really like it and spellable to boot.

Hi @FlatWhite2
I think you might have recently responded to a post I made about this name almost a year ago…hello! Our Hugo is about eight months now, and thought you might like to know that we absolutely love his name: and so does everybody who meets him! He’s a really happy, bubbly, little boy, and the name feels like a warm hug. It suits him perfectly! (In fact, he has generally become known as “Hugs” to most of our friends and family).

I think it just took me a little bit of time to get used to it fitting a real human being, but I couldn’t think of him being anything else now!

We travel a lot, and it works really well in so many languages/countries, its easy to say and to spell, has a wonderful history and a wonderful meaning. If you love it, go for it! we were really happy with our choice, and I think you might be too.

id say that was definitely me.. I’ve driven myself a bit crazy googling the name and peoples opinions of it which is definitely not the right thing to do. Really glad to hear you still love it, it came up as an option pretty late in the pregnancy so I’m just a tiny bit worried I’ll go off it & it does seem to evoke some strong criticism but then what name doesn’t? It really is a gorgeous name IMO & I also love the nickname hugs 🤍 thanks for sharing

I have a Hugo so completely biased. But he's a teen now and sometimes refers to himself as Hug-Oh when he wants to give (or receive) a big bear hug. Still completely in love with his name

Love this!

I like it - I know of 3 human Hugos under the age of 2 but as a caveat I also know of 2 recently acquired puppies with the same name!

Snugglemonkey · 08/02/2024 20:58

Lovely. V sweet for a baby, but also v suitable for a man.

I have a 15 year old hugo who we call hug-oh for the same reasons! Big hugger. Kind, bright, sweet, easy going.

I have a Hugo and still love it 10+ years later! Go for it!

Woodenwonder · 08/02/2024 22:20

We have a Hugo in the family , we're not posh ☺️

DuchessOfSausage · 09/02/2024 07:13

It's not posh. I like it.
It's probably gone up in popularity since 2021.
