Shouldn't it be due a comeback? I think it sounds kind of earthy and folky

No.
Cos I've never been able to say it properly. My poor childhood friend was "Keef" 😂😂😂

PamelaParis · 02/02/2024 11:52

I know a primary school aged Ian, so anything is possible!

toastofthetown · 02/02/2024 11:53

Keith isn’t the right generation to be brought back. Aside from pets, names like Keith, Brian, Derek, Robert etc. are really being used. It’s the generation previous (Stanley, Arthur, Frank, Wilfred) which are popular. But if you think it’s due a comeback, go ahead and use it.

LadyDanburysHat · 02/02/2024 11:57

It is awful, and not the right generation to come back. However I do know a 19 year old Keith named after his Dad.

Well we have whole armies of Feeos wandering around, why not Keefs!

No sorry, not to my taste!

Needmorelego · 02/02/2024 12:20

@Ghuunvg that's true.
And all the Feebies 😂

Hobbi · 02/02/2024 12:22

@Ghuunvg that's true.
And all the Feebies 😂

What should Feebie sound like?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/02/2024 12:24

Agreed. About time my generation's names were revived! (I'm 62.)

I look forward in future years to seeing a revival of fortunes for:

And for girls:
Carol

Nicola
Amanda
Kathryn
Janet
Julie
Fiona
Alison
Gillian
Jill
Jacqueline

Needmorelego · 02/02/2024 12:44

@Hobbi Phoebe 😂

Nicebloomers · 02/02/2024 12:58

I just know there will come a time when our kids have kids and are choosing between Janet and Tricia or Trevor and Barry 😂😂😂

MaryamRoseMaryam · 02/02/2024 13:12

And Nigel while you're at it!

Hobbi · 02/02/2024 13:27

@Needmorelego

Sorry for being dense, but doesn't Phoebe sound like Feebie? It's not like Keef, where people whose parents never corrected them say th as f.

Needmorelego · 02/02/2024 13:29

@Hobbi I think the Ph is meant to have more of a 'Thuh' sound - like Theo - but many people say it more F like.
If that makes sense.
"Thuh-eebee" 🤔

MaryamRoseMaryam · 02/02/2024 13:32

I love Phoebe. Its freebie without the r.

No, it's pronounced 'fee-bee'.

In the same way that amoeba and foetus are pronounced 'ameeba' and 'feetus'.

Needmorelego · 02/02/2024 13:35

So have I been wrong all these years and actually saying Phoebe correctly - as in "Feebie" ?
I actually thought my way was wrong 😂

Oh yes, like ‘th’one, ‘th’onetics and ele’th’ant.

Needmorelego · 02/02/2024 13:36

@OctaviaRedQueen stupid English language....😂😂😂😂

ChChChCheckinItOut · 02/02/2024 13:39

I actually quite like Keith. And I like Iain but not Ian.

Gary has to be the worst.

Agreed, Gary sucks, its so plodding.

But if you step away from the connotations of Keith, it's quite a good name. It packs a lot into one syllable...The K is hard and manly but the TH is soft, and the "ei" gives it a little weirdness.

I love it!

Ghuunvg · 02/02/2024 13:43

I'm totally not getting the phoebe debate. It's a PH like PH always has been and always be....F!

JoanThursday · 02/02/2024 13:45

Eh? Ph = F !

Needmorelego · 02/02/2024 13:50

@Ghuunvg @JoanThursday I am deeply confused 😂
