Have you got any others you’re thinking about?

Amazinggrace89 · 30/01/2024 17:53

No these are our top 3

Wilfred! It's a great name, she could be Winnie or Freddie

0MammaBear0 · 30/01/2024 17:57

I like Ruth. Winnifred sounds like whiney Fred and she could suffer bullying in school...

Theresplendentemmaforbes · 30/01/2024 17:58

I'd hate to be called Winifred

Ruth and Fern however are nice. I havent met a young Ruth for ages

Mumofoneandone · 30/01/2024 17:58

Ruth is a family name........

StrongandNorthern · 30/01/2024 17:59

I love Winifred! Freddie for short.

salamithumbs · 30/01/2024 18:01

Sorry but I really dislike Winifred, it sounds so witchy and frumpy to me! I think Ruth and Fern are both fine, slightly prefer Fern I think as it reminds me of the girl from Charlotte's Web!

Onelife2024 · 30/01/2024 18:20

I like Ruth and would be very happy to be called it as an adult. (But I did tell my 12 year old daughter recently that I considered calling her Ruth and she looked horrified! :))
Fern is quite nice - again, hard to imagine suiting a cool teen.
I’m sorry, Winifred isn’t to my taste as I wouldn’t like to be called it.

NachosAndCheese · 30/01/2024 18:28

Really dislike Winifred. Can’t imagine wanting to be named that at all. It’s so ugly and frumpy.

Ruth is lovely. Fern is ok but not sure if I like that spelling.

MySonCyrilBaconSniffer · 30/01/2024 18:48

I'm really trying to envision myself being called by each one, but I have to be honest that none of them really resonate with me. So, it's quite challenging to make a decision.
Ruth maybe.

Libmama · 30/01/2024 18:56

Out of the 3 I prefer Fern but I don’t like any of them. Sorry!

Doppelgangers · 30/01/2024 18:57

Ruth is lovely and so underused. It's a beautiful name so that would be my choice.

Nicebloomers · 30/01/2024 18:57

Fern

sunflowerpinks · 30/01/2024 19:13

I thought Winfred is a man's name?

Allthingsdecember · 30/01/2024 19:15

I love Fern! It sounds really fresh and bright to me.

BewareTheBlob · 30/01/2024 19:17

I'm not particularly keen on any I'm afraid. Winifred is rather clunky, Ruth has a dry quality that evokes the feeling of felt or cotton balls rubbed against teeth. Fern is like unseasoned chicken. Writing this I'm realising I have an irrational aversion to names containing "th" or "f" so take my opinion with a pinch of salt.

BewareTheBlob · 30/01/2024 19:18

@sunflowerpinks Winifred.

Vexxa · 30/01/2024 19:18

Ruth is lovely.

onlythebrave3 · 30/01/2024 19:24

I really like all three. I love the nickname Winnie, but have a soft spot for Ruth. People pronouncing it Roof does put me off a bit though. Fern is nice, the most current and safest choice seeing how polarised opinion is on Winnifred.

Samzzz · 30/01/2024 19:26

Winifred is awful. I’m not a fan but Winnie is a lot better. Out of your options I’d go with Fern, it’s lovely.

C00k · 30/01/2024 19:29

Fern is alright.
I would hate to be named Winifred, and Ruth(less) isn’t a nice sound.

sciencemama · 30/01/2024 19:32

Deffo Winifred.
N being Winnie, winter, Freda

MaloneMeadow · 30/01/2024 19:33

Fern 100%. Ruth is nice but too dated and not due a reboot yet. Winifred is just awful!

SquigglePigs · 30/01/2024 19:49

I like Ruth. It's classic and simple.

Fern is ok but I don't love it.

Winifred sounds a bit harsh to be honest, although Winnie is ok as a nickname.
