Just that really 😊love the name but in the last few years it’s become popular and I don’t want a name that will become too popular (I know it’s a bit of an unknown!)
i have a name that was unusual when I was born and now it’s everywhere!
FYI we live outside Wales for context so guessing it’s not as usual in England 🤔

thank you in advance. X

I know two. One is 8 and the other around 14.

Fantastic rally driver- watched him win in 2022. Great name!

Just one, and I’ve three kids of different ages.

AnneLovesGilbert · 29/01/2024 21:59

One. A little poppet!

Frizzwald · 29/01/2024 21:59

Quite a few as we live in Wales and randomly DS is in university in England and has a friend on his course from Surrey called Osian but he pronounces it Ocean as his parents had never heard it spoken.

Lemonyyellow · 29/01/2024 22:00

I live in wales and know loads. But my kids are in welsh schools so i hear it a lot.

Auntieobem · 29/01/2024 22:04

It's a beer isn't it?

IsadoraSpoon · 29/01/2024 22:06

One age 5ish in the Midlands. I know dozens of under 10s and haven't come across it otherwise.

One two year old in the midlands.

welshweasel · 29/01/2024 22:10

Lots but I live in wales! It's a lovely name when pronounced correctly but if you're outside wales people will struggle.

Snowdate · 29/01/2024 22:10

Ok this is all good to know. And very helpful replies.
I know that the majority will be in wales because it’s a welsh name …as we’re in the East of England I think it’ll be fine
I’m definitely over thinking it!

Is it pronounced the same as the Irish name Oisín?

herbygarden · 29/01/2024 22:11

Also never heard the name, SW England! Young kids in primary and definitely not met one yet!

I’m sure people can learn
I’m not really worried about that as I work internationally and learn lots of different names and manage so I am sure people can cope with a welsh name

Yes, but as a person with a Welsh name who lived in England for the first 40 years, I spent all that time spelling my name for people which gets a bit tiresome!!

No, it’s different but I also love the Irish version of the name 🥰

I feel strongly that my heritage shouldn’t be shyed away from because some people in England can’t pronounce an easily pronounced name when they learn it

SquirrelsAssemble · 29/01/2024 22:18

How should it be pronounced?

I only heard of Osian via Keeping Faith. I think it's a gorgeous name in it's spoken & written form, but it did sound Ocean-ish to my clumsy ears.

Is it more O'sharn?

PaulCostinRIP · 29/01/2024 22:19

Yes. One curly red headed boy from
Carmarthenshire, Wales. Not seen him in years but he was a beautiful looking boy .

minipie · 29/01/2024 22:20

London. Never heard of it! Nice name.

LorlieS · 29/01/2024 22:21

Love it! ❤️ My hubby is Welsh and our little girl has a beautiful Welsh name, but had we had a boy we would have called him either Gethin or Iestyn. The only concern I would have had about Iestyn is that I'm sure so many people would have mispronounced it!
Welsh names are stunning in my opinion.

SemperIdem · 29/01/2024 22:21

One or two.

Thinking about it, I’m surprised to not have heard it more, as I live in a little Welsh speaking hub in Cardiff.

Have come across more Begw’s (girls).

Osian is a lovely name!
