My husband is desperate to call our baby boy Ezra but I’m honestly not sure on it.
We had kind of decided on Reuben but he is trying his best to persuade me Ezra is better.

which would you choose Ezra or Reuben?

Reuben

SophieHope7 · 29/01/2024 19:26

Love Ezra. My DD"s friend is Reuben and frequently gets referred to as "Reuby" he hates that

MassiveOvaryaction · 29/01/2024 19:27

I prefer Ezra. Fewer of them about I should think.

FawnDrench · 29/01/2024 19:28

Ezra is great - go for it!

HippeePrincess · 29/01/2024 19:29

Definitely Ezra, I loved it for my ds but dp vetoed it!

43ontherocksporfavor · 29/01/2024 19:30

Reuben. One at my school. Never gets called Reuby. Ezra is a surname and he’ll get all the George Ezra comments.

CutiePatooties · 29/01/2024 19:30

Ezra.

heldinadream · 29/01/2024 19:31

I've always thought Ezra was a great name. Somehow it has great presence, IYSWIM.

Mysterian · 29/01/2024 19:32

I like Ezra. Getting fairly common now.

Onelife2024 · 29/01/2024 19:32

I prefer Reuben for my personal taste but like Ezra too - both are good names

Shouldgetupearlier · 29/01/2024 19:35

Love Ezra, but as a PP said, seems to be getting more popular. May be as girls who watched Pretty Little Liars become old enough to start having children.

Barleysugar86 · 29/01/2024 19:37

I know two from my local baby groups. If you love it just be prepared to not be the only one in his class!

Reuben. One at my school. Never gets called Reuby. Ezra is a surname and he’ll get all the George Ezra comments.

Of course Ezra is a first name, it's a biblical name. Ezra is George Ezra's middle name not surname.

I like it. It was my great grandads name. (He was a methodist preacher, so I imagine Ezra really suited him)

purplesand · 29/01/2024 19:47

Love Ezra but it's so popular where I am!

George Ezra is literally the only person I've heard of with that surname, and it isn't even actually his surname!

SmallestInTheClass · 29/01/2024 19:53

I prefer Reuben but Ezra is more trendy, if that is important. It does make me think of George Ezra. It was 26th in the list of boys names last year. Reuben was 41st.

TakingTheHorseToFrance · 29/01/2024 19:57

I have a Reuben but loved the name Ezra. My Reuben is 8 and keeps telling me he would have loved to have been called Ezra....

I really like Ezra but it sounds a buit harsh, Reuben rolls nicely in the mouth. In our school there is another Reuben and it is more popular.

SueBranchers · 29/01/2024 19:58

george ezra? green green grass blue blue sky you better throw a party on the day that i die 🌾🏙️🎉

wutheringkites · 29/01/2024 20:01

Have some people literally never heard the name Ezra before George Ezra?

It's an old testament name!

KThnxBye · 29/01/2024 20:11

I saw the name Ezra in a point horror book when I was a teenager and decided it was so cool and I wanted to to my future son that. Unfortunately although I still think it’s cool everyone else thought the same and it’s not just way too popular for me to use now, it’s also IMO likely to be the type of name that peaks (now) and then troughs, which might make it date badly.

It was top 50 in 2021 and I suspect it’ll be higher in more recent data when we see it. Enzo and Ezekiel have risen with it. Reuben is more popular still but might not date in the same way.

My personal preference would be to choose something less commonly used.

QueSyrahSyrah · 29/01/2024 20:16

DH and I have also been thinking about Ezra. I love the name but can't envisage it on a child of ours, if that makes sense. It's a name I love for other people Grin

Reuben we've never considered as we know several adult Reubens (popular in our area due to high concentration of a nationality).

43ontherocksporfavor · 29/01/2024 21:02

I stand corrected. I have never heard of it before George Ezra. But this alone would be enough to put me off.

KirstenBlest · 29/01/2024 21:07

Of the two, Ezra.

KirstenBlest · 29/01/2024 21:10

@43ontherocksporfavor , Ezra is one of the books of the Bible.

Highlandflapped · 29/01/2024 21:11

Ezra is great. I know of 3 under 6 months.
