You asked for honest, so I’ll wonder if you were messaging from the depths of 1978.

Hermittrismegistus · 27/01/2024 21:58

Horrible.

quietnightmare · 27/01/2024 21:59

No

Persianterrier · 27/01/2024 22:00

Hahaha... the depths of 1978! Is it too dated ?!

OP posts:
fruitbrewhaha · 27/01/2024 22:00

Blimey.

catagoryA · 27/01/2024 22:00

its fine! have you thought about Kayleigh?

DanceMumTaxi · 27/01/2024 22:01

Dated, but not in a cool granny chic way.

Grazyna80 · 27/01/2024 22:01

It’s not a horrible name, but for some reason, vapid blonde comes to mind!!

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 27/01/2024 22:01

I like it, I know some lovely Kelly's and you wouldn't hear it around for sure. Like it for a boy as well

AtLeastHalfRelieved · 27/01/2024 22:01

I quite like it.

Her actual peers won't have any particular associations with it either!

Halfbakedbrisket · 27/01/2024 22:01

I don't see anything wrong with Kelly. I am a Gen Xer and know plenty of Kellys in our generation, but so what? If you both like it use it OP.

Dated, but not in a cool granny chic way.

Maybe not right now, but by the time she is 20 most other Kellys will be pensioners with 3 or 4 generations between themselves and her.

SilverBranchGoldenPears · 27/01/2024 22:03

well I’m 50 and there were lots of Kellys at school so I’d assume it was either a family name or you love the 70s!!
Not my cup of tea sorry

Halfbakedbrisket · 27/01/2024 22:05

@SilverBranchGoldenPears is a perfect example, she will be 70 when your own Kelly is 20. She will be rare at that time, especially among all the Olivias and Sophias.

Amalienborg · 27/01/2024 22:06

I actually really like it! It's sweet and cute for a child but also works for an adult too.

We recently had a Kerry join the family. People would probably make similar comments on here about 70s dated, but in reality everyone says how lovely it is to hear it used again.

Confused2124 · 27/01/2024 22:08

Don’t let other people opinions determine the name of your baby. You will find people who love and hate every baby name, so best to just stick to one that you and your partner like

Berlinlover · 27/01/2024 22:09

I love it.

maddiemookins16mum · 27/01/2024 22:15

No no no. Awful name. If you want to go back to 1983 then Jessica, Nicola and Katie are much nicer.

miniaturepixieonacid · 27/01/2024 22:19

Tbh, it's one of very few names I've always really disliked. Partly because it seemed to be the name of quite a lot of the girls I was scared of at school and partly because it makes me think of belly and smelly. In my head it was always a naughty girl name but that was just my personal experience. It would be quite a fresh name now but I don't think it has a pleasant sound.

Similar names that I think are a lot nicer:
Abbie, Amy, Bryony, Callie, Casey, Chloe, Cassidy, Darcey, Everly, Ebony, Gracie, Hayley, India, Jasmine, Jodie, Kayleigh, Kenzie, Lexi, Lacey, Leonie, Leah, Millie, Melody, Madison, Nicole, Poppy, Ruby, Scarlett, Sadie, Sylvie, Sienna, Taylor, Tilly, Willow, Zoe.

WishesPromises · 27/01/2024 22:21

I've known two Kelly's and neither had any of the attributes, ambitions or accomplishments I'd hope for in a daughter.

Halfbakedbrisket · 27/01/2024 22:22

Kelly is an ancient name with a long history as a surname and I imagine that famous stars such as Grace Kelly and Gene Kelly brought it to public attention originally. Stick with what you like.

Really bad associations. At school in the 90s Kelly smoked wore lots of hair spray and would beat you up if you were square and looked at her funny.

This child won't be in school until 2028.

That's like saying in the 1990s, don't use names like Sue and Barbara from the 50s and 60s because they smoke and wore beehives.

KezzabellaB · 27/01/2024 22:27

I like it!

DillDanding · 27/01/2024 22:28

When I was growing up in the 70s and 80s, Kelly was from the rough side of town and was probably the local bully.

I still think it’s a naff name.
