Planning our favourite baby names for each sex. What do you think of these two and, assuming we had one of each, would they work as a sibling set? What's the overall vibe?

Vibe is trying really hard. Sorry.

FuglySweaty · 23/01/2024 20:23

Wilfred I like. Lots of different abbreviations to choose from. I don’t think it goes with Zelda at all. They jar.

Zelda to me is a very popular game.

Wilfred and Zelda
Mairzydotes · 23/01/2024 20:25

The vibe is that they practice sorcery

Perhaps get a pair of kittens and give them those names

Blindingsunlight · 23/01/2024 20:26

I personally don't like either but they aren't my kids! If you love them use them. My children's names were unusual 20 years ago but are now heard frequently.

KirstenBlest · 23/01/2024 20:37

They're fine.

Cheepcheepcheep · 23/01/2024 20:38

I have a Wilfred! His sister is Bryony (outs self immediately)

Cheepcheepcheep · 23/01/2024 20:39

Our second choices were Douglas and Hazel.

VoleChomper · 23/01/2024 20:40

I like Zelda. I know she didn't have the happiest of lives but I think of Zelda Fitzgerald and 1920s literature and glamour and excess.

Wilfred isn't into excess. He spends all his free time in his potting shed with a Thermos and a nice dunking biscuit.

Onelife2024 · 23/01/2024 20:42

Wilfred sounds quite charmingly old fashioned- I wouldn’t be brave enough to use it but I don’t dislike it.

Zelda sounds mythical and trendy - again I don’t think I’d use it myself but it’s fine. It’s got a different feel to Wilfred to me.

Elspethelf · 23/01/2024 20:43

I love them both. I don’t think they particularly go together but I also don’t think they need to

olympicsrock · 23/01/2024 20:45

I don’t like either. Wilfred is a bit wet and Zelda has a hard edge and is quite mythical.
I think if you had a pair Zelda would be in charge

martinisforeveryone · 23/01/2024 20:46

Vibe is Look at Us! Look at Us!! We're such cool parents.

Sibling set? poor kids.

I'm looking at it from the perspective of the children.

Notalldogs23 · 23/01/2024 20:54

I think they really don't go together - like VoleChomper, Zelda to me was married to Scott Fitzgerald, Wilfred is a mild mannered elderly man.

My cat is called zelda

littlemousebigcheese · 23/01/2024 20:57

I don't think they go at all so it's hard to get a sense of your 'vibe' or tastes from those two.

Wilfred is very wet to me, like Percy or Rupert.

I like Zelda - poster above posted a picture of Link from the game which is a pet peeve of mine as everyone thinks he's Zelda 😂

To me someone who likes Wilfred would like Poppy, Martha, Lucy and someone who likes Zelda would like Maddox, Dallas, Axel

Bluebelz · 23/01/2024 21:15

Zelda reminds me of terrahawks or running around Hyrule castle after drinking some lon lon milk or bathing in the fairy fountain!

Wilf reminds me of Boris Johnson!

Agree.

muddyford · 23/01/2024 21:27

I love Wilfred but Zelda has too many of the same letters.

7catsisnotenough · 23/01/2024 21:37

Wilfred and Daisy/Rose/Violet or Zelda and Loki/ Link?

KatyPerryMenopause · 23/01/2024 21:50

I don't think it really matters if they "go together" other than greeting cards.
They're not joined at the hip. Nobody will really care if matchy or not.
I'm not keen on Wilfred same as Alfred or Albert - they are "old man" names to me.
Wilf and Alfie and Bertie/Albie are very popular though. I think Tardis and Cilla and Wooster. Not my baby so doesn't matter. Same as slebs calling their son Buzz or Woody.
Zelda I do think is witchy. Probably because of Grizelda. I prefer Zara or Sylvie.
Your baby. You get to choose.

wasanneofcleves · 23/01/2024 21:56

They are both good. We know a little Zelda and it's a cool name and works very well on her.

Aaah yes. I was puzzling over why Wilf rang a vague bell. The Johnsons.

FuglySweaty · 23/01/2024 22:13

@littlemousebigcheese I know that’s Link. I spent many weeks playing the game. But that’s the association for a lot of us with the game! Sorry to have triggered a pet peeve 😂

HahaBooHiss · 23/01/2024 22:16

I absolutely love Zelda!

Mumofgirls2017 · 23/01/2024 22:17

I love both. Don’t go best together though but won’t necessarily get a boy and girl!
