Middle name for Heidi?

Aaaahd · 17/01/2024 09:14

The week she is due and DH has decided to p*ss me off to no end

DS has a middle name, a nod to my dad. I would like DD to have a middle name , we have one with a slight nod to my side but DH has vetoed it

So I liked Grace as I liked that as a 1st name, he vetoed as his siblings child (who we don’t see/rarely see and he doesn’t speak to this sibling) has that middle name. It’s number 2 most common in UK or something high like that but anyway

Rose is nice but I just don’t have a feeling it’s her middle name? It might change when I see her. I don’t hate it I don’t love it.

louise is the other he vetoed and was tied to my side. Because years ago when he was young (talking 10 years ago) he went on dates with a lady named Louise. Yep

im a bit wound up and heavily pregnant. I’d love suggestetions as I really want her to have a middle name I love my sons full name and it does actually ring well! Middle name included

I do like Elizabeth a bit

open to other names :) and we’ve looked at the other women in our families close and they don’t have names we’d like to use as a middle name

Hazel is a slight nod to my nana - but is Heidi Hazel a mouth ful? Is my worry

we have a few H initial names either side haha! So the fact we’ve picked Heidi as her name means the middle name , picking from family if we were, is harder

Oh, I immediately thought of Heidi Grace or Heidi Louise! Can you force it through OP?! Grin

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 17/01/2024 09:17

I came here to say rose! I think one syllable. Like grace! What's wrong with sharing a middle name with a cousin that's lovely?

Anne
Elizabeth
Olivia
Lavinia
Maia or maya
Scarlet

Heidi was on my girls list what a pretty choice

Whataretheodds · 17/01/2024 09:19

Nothing wrong with HH at all.

What about your mother's name? Would that be appropriate?

Aaaahd · 17/01/2024 09:22

I think it’s the element of he doesn’t speak to the sibling whose child it is, and without going into it - rightfully so. So if we used it that sibling would try to cause family drama/an argument and it’s not something I want when we welcome our baby :/ :(

My mum is Deborah! She gets Debbie but we kind of didn’t want Heidi Deborah/Heidi Debbie. Nothing wrong with the name just feels like it doesn’t really gel

Snowydaysfaraway · 17/01/2024 09:23

Heidi Jayne Hazel...

LoreleiG · 17/01/2024 09:25

You could have a Heidi Clara as a full nod to the book! Heidi Rose is lovely though.

My child has the same middle name as my niece.

DesertSnow · 17/01/2024 09:28

My immediate thought was Claire. I think one syllable works best with Heidi

Timemysticaltime · 17/01/2024 09:39

I have a Heidi Meredith. We have a short surname so preferred a longer middle for flow. We almost went for Elizabeth as well, think it is a lovely combo :)

Maybe you could think about meanings that you like? Something literal like Joy or more subtle like Beatrice which means 'she who brings happiness'.

I do think Louise is perfect with the meaning it has to you and also it sounds nice. Can you wait until after she's born and talk DH round then? I'm also due my second this week (eek!) and my DH vetoed my favourite name but I think we're putting it in the middle :)

Good luck whatever you decide! Hope this week goes well for us both haha!

PickledScrump · 17/01/2024 09:42

I don’t think it needs to be one syllable, longer names flow just as well, avoid another H name though

Faye
eleanor
Maria
Beatrix
Elouise
Elise

noooooooo · 17/01/2024 09:43

Heidi Laura
Heidi Vorah
Heidi Mädchen (German for girl)
Heidi Margot
Heidi Elise
Heidi Bee

(Deborah comes from Devorah, which means bee)

Heidi Honey!

PollyPeep · 17/01/2024 09:45

Heidi Joy is just about the happiest name I can imagine! You can't help but feel light when you hear it. I vote Joy!

motleymop · 17/01/2024 09:56

PPs suggestions of Eloise / Elouise definitely works, or Eleanor

HoHoHoliday · 17/01/2024 10:39

If your son has a middle name from your dad, what about some names from your husband's side of the family for this baby? It would be nice to tie in both sides. I can see why he wouldn't want to use the name of the daughter of a sibling he doesn't speak to!
His mum's first name or middle name?
Either of his grandmother's first or middle names?
The female version of his own name?
His mother's pre-marriage surname?

timetofetgit · 17/01/2024 10:54

Heidi Elizabeth is lovely.
I think because Heidi has an /ee/ sound at the end you want to keep away from /ee/ ending middle names
So Heidi Annie sounds awful (although I like both names individually) Heidi Anne or Heidi Anna has a better ring to it (not that I would pair those names, it's just an example of the /ee/ factor).
Another example Heidi Jenny vs Heidi Jennifer.
Heidi Erika
Heidi Jasmine
Heidi Cynthia
Heidi Caroline
Heidi Megan
Heidi Rosalyn
Heidi Iona
Heidi Lola
Heidi Rebecca

Sofabum · 17/01/2024 10:56

I think it needs 3 syllables. Heidi Rosamund/Tabitha (queen of the Andals etc.)

Favouritefruits · 17/01/2024 10:59

My son has a friend called Heidi and she’s the most lovely child you could ever meet so I love the name! I really like Heidi Rose, it sounds really pretty, I agree Heidi Hazel I’d too much of a mouthful but it might just be my northern accent!

DuchessOfSausage · 17/01/2024 11:15

Heidi Elizabeth is perfect
Grace/Rose/Anne/May/Jane/Louise etc are middle names for the sake of a middle name.

NachosAndCheese · 17/01/2024 12:21

Honestly? Rose/Grace/May are the current filler middle names for girls and they are so overused they’ve become dull. Every Heidi will be a Heidi Rose or Heidi May or Heidi Grace.
