Heard this name for the first time in ages and couldn’t help but think it would be sweet for a little girl. Thoughts?

In all honesty the first thing that springs to mind is Maxine Carr.

Huwipulotu · 11/01/2024 19:27

With middle names Myra Rose?

This. Sorry.

Heather37231 · 11/01/2024 19:29

Yes, too tainted, sorry.

Myra is also objectively a lovely name but a total no-go.

Redlarge · 11/01/2024 19:34

Horrible name

1975wasthebest · 11/01/2024 19:36

It’s a nice, if dated, name, but is forever linked to Maxine Carr.

ElevenSeven · 11/01/2024 19:37

Yeah Maxine Carr has ruined this for life

Viewfrommyhouse · 11/01/2024 19:37

Carr. Big nope.

Bernieee · 11/01/2024 19:40

No way. Just think of that woman

JinglePringle · 11/01/2024 19:42

Sorry agree with pp's.

Maxine Carr didn't murder anybody.
Do you feel the same about the name Ian or Frederick?

MyAnacondaMight · 11/01/2024 19:43

Nope.

Gnomegnomegnome · 11/01/2024 19:43

It’s awful regardless of Carr.

It’s velvet headbands and shoulder pads.

There’s always one.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 11/01/2024 19:45

I didn't think of Carr, but it's very 80s.

SallyWD · 11/01/2024 19:46

I genuinely wouldn't think of Maxine Carr but I just don't like it. It's quite an ugly name to my ears. Apologies to all the Maxines out there!

Scirocco · 11/01/2024 19:46

All the Maxines I've met in real life have been lovely, and I like Max as a shortening, but sadly Maxine Carr has ruined it by association for a few years yet, I think.

Wictc · 11/01/2024 19:49

I know a Maxine and have never thought about the Carr connection. I really don’t think a baby growing up now will have any association with Maxine Carr as their peers will not have heard of her.

Elisabeth Bathory was pretty horrible, but lots of people call their child Elisabeth.

I have also worked with quite a few men called Atilla!

SparklyOwls · 11/01/2024 19:51

Awful name sorry

Snoozymoozy · 11/01/2024 19:53

First thought, Carr

CavalierApproach · 11/01/2024 19:57

Even though Maxine Carr was my first thought too, I’m not sure it matters. It’s our generation who remember that story. And even so, if I actually met a Maxine, I am pretty sure she would immediately become my main association with the name.

Heather37231 · 11/01/2024 20:03

Maxie is a nice alternative.

It doesn’t matter that a baby’s peers will not think of Carr. The parents’ peers will, and the child’s teachers, and all the other people who remember Soham with whom the child will mix throughout her life.

Clearinguptheclutter · 11/01/2024 20:04

I think of Max in stranger things, def a good connotation
I assumed she was Maxine but I don’t actually know that

Heather37231 · 11/01/2024 20:05

Or just Max. Like the girl in Stranger Things. I think she is a Maxine but wasn’t called that much, and in any event is it less reminiscent of Carr when pronounced the American way (Max EEN).
