Short list of baby boy names beginning with M.

I recently made a thread for baby boy names beginning with M. We now have a short list and would love to hear your thoughts. Older siblings are brother Ezra John and sister Winter Victoria. We would like a slightly unusual name. MN is James.

Macaulay James (my fav)
Maddox James (DH fav)
Marlow James (aware this is also a town in Buckinghamshire but that doesn’t bother me. I love the softness of it)
Monroe James
Misha James
Malachi James (DH likes this, I’m not too sure)

Names we also like but won’t use:
Milo- too popular
Micah/ Mika- too similar to DH’s name
Miles- Family friend has this name
Marley- Family dog

thanks ☺️ x

Malachi is my favourite but like Maddox and Macaulay too. Marlow, Monroe and Misha are all names of girls/women I know and I don't know any boys/men with these names.

Needmorelego · 11/01/2024 13:51

Misha is possibly the best of your likes.

Drummend01 · 11/01/2024 13:52

Agree with OP, I’ve only known Marlow, misha and Monroe used for girls

My favourite is Malachi. Don’t love or hate Macaulay or Maddox

Three threads the same?

Three threads the same?

Well they’re not the same. I’m now asking opinions on my shortlist.

Malachi is the best, (the name of my old dog!)
Mally for short.

Theoldwoman · 11/01/2024 14:20

Pity about Marley, now I’m liking Malachi the best x

DinoRodney · 11/01/2024 15:36

My favourite is Malachi and I think it’s a good match. Some of the others sound feminine.

If you are open to surnames as first names (and Monroe suggests you are) what about Mitchell or Mackie?

KirstenBlest · 11/01/2024 16:13

There seems to be several versions of this question.
James is better as a first name.

Macaulay - Culkin
Maddox - ok. Not sure about the Mad bit. Might get called Maddy
Marlow - sounds a bit wet
Monroe - awful
Misha - seems a bit feminine sounding. Isn't it a russian diminutive of Mikhail?
Malachi - Malloc eye.

Michael or Miles are much better than your list.

How about Magnus, Marcus or Matthias?

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 11/01/2024 16:18

My favourite on your list is Malachi James. Lovely name. I have a Matthew and that could be another option. I do think it’s quite unusual these days. I haven’t met another baby Matthew. Matthew James is lovely as well and I would have used it myself but there was another middle name we wanted for family reasons.

Not keen on the caul bit of macauley. Ie. Being born inside sac.

What about
Macarthur
Macarty
Macklin

Devlin (wild card I know but I love it and goes with James and general vibe. Also Notorious film)

Drummend01 · 11/01/2024 16:40

@ReadtheReviews i like Devlin and considered it as a name but my mum was quick to point out it sounds like ‘Devil in’ 🤦🏻‍♀️

KirstenBlest · 11/01/2024 17:18

Menzies - Ming for short
Marco

TheBeesKnee · 11/01/2024 17:22

I think Ezra, Winter and Marlow sounds nice.

DesertSnow · 11/01/2024 17:27

I think Marlow goes best with Ezra and Winter

VladimirVsVolodymyr · 11/01/2024 17:45

I think Malachi James goes well with Ezra John and Winter Victoria.

Lachimolala · 11/01/2024 17:56

I love Marlo, without the W is how I know it for boys. And Maddox!

FindingMeno · 11/01/2024 18:04

Malachi!

PolliFlinders · 11/01/2024 18:19

Malachi

Riapia · 11/01/2024 18:25

Malodorous

KirstenBlest · 11/01/2024 20:18

Melchior
Merlin

theduchessofspork · 11/01/2024 20:28

I don’t mind Malachy

I spose Munro as in the mountains is quite nice though I have only known it as a middle name. But Monroe is so associated with Marilyn it’s bizarre for a boy unless it’s a family name

Macauley is the best of the rest.

Matthias?

Bookkeepermum · 12/01/2024 08:09

Malachi's my favorite as it's my old horses name.
I like Marlow.

RunningAwayToJoinTheCircus · 12/01/2024 08:24

Would he be Malla-key, or Malla-kye? Or Malarr-key/kye?
It's the best of your suggestions but brings malarkey (and shenanigans) to mind a bit.
What about Matthias or Matteo (I think I spelled that wrong, but it's the one pronounced Matt-ay-oh)

loml97 · 12/01/2024 08:27

Malachi
