Short list of baby boy names beginning with M.

I recently made a thread for baby boy names beginning with M. We now have a short list and would love to hear your thoughts. Older siblings are brother Ezra John and sister Winter Victoria. We would like a slightly unusual name. MN is James.

Macaulay James (my fav)
Maddox James (DH fav)
Marlow James (aware this is also a town in Buckinghamshire but that doesn’t bother me. I love the softness of it)
Monroe James
Misha James
Malachi James (DH likes this, I’m not too sure)

Names we also like but won’t use:
Milo- too popular
Micah/ Mika- too similar to DH’s name
Miles- Family friend has this name
Marley- Family dog

thanks ☺️ x

Mason is lovely

IncognitoUsername · 12/01/2024 08:37

I have a Matthew Jacob, who is MJ for a nickname. I wanted a Hebrew name to match his siblings but DH vetoed Matthias

Pregnant with boy #3 and we've picked Marley. We just love it

Mugaloaf · 12/01/2024 08:48

There are two boys called Malachi in my daughter's form, so perhaps not that unusual if that's what you're after.

I like Macaulay or Monroe best from your list.

With Ezra John and Winter Victoria I like best ..
Malachi James
Marlo James - I prefer to name after Marlo beach.
I also like Malcolm and Max

Ez, Winnie and Mal
Ezra, Winter and Marlo
Jock, Tori and Jim

A boy in my dd3's class was called Marlowe. I quite like the name. I also like the name Munro instead of Monroe.

Fluffyc1ouds · 12/01/2024 09:28

Macaulay is really nice, I'm not too keen on the others personally. Although I guess people might try and shorten it to Mac which isn't so nice.

I wonder if Malachi might have issues with pronunciation. I read it as Malla-kee but perhaps you mean Malla-kye?

I like a PPs suggestion of Marlo, without the w.

Whichwhatnow · 12/01/2024 09:30

I would go for Malachi but the Irish version, so Malachy (pronounced as Malak-ee vs Malak-aye)

I actually do quite like Maddox and Macauley but in both cases if I met a child with those names I would probably assume their parents were massive fans of Angelina Jolie or Home Alone respectively.

Misha is ok but I'm sorry I don't like your other choices - as PP have said I only know women/girls with those names.

KirstenBlest · 12/01/2024 09:50

@RunningAwayToJoinTheCircus

Malachy Malla-key,
Malachi Malla-kye
malarkey - Mul-arky

Mumof2girls2121 · 12/01/2024 11:25

Maddox James is nicest

I didn’t know there was an Irish version but I actually prefer this pronunciation. I just looked it up and apparently the meaning is ‘second’ which is lovely as he’ll be our second son. I’m actually starting to really like it!

Maddox is the nicest. The rest arent very nice IMO. Malakai as a second if pushed. Monroe (Marilyn)
Misha is more a girls name
Marlow.... nope

Why does it have to begin with M?

gemma19846 · 12/01/2024 16:41

What about Makai?

NotSoLittleDove · 12/01/2024 17:54

Will he always want to be reminded that he's the second son?

And he's the third child.

Just offering another perspective.

It's my nephew's name (he's half Irish). Malachi is I believe a Jewish name and I personally much prefer the Malachy pronunciation 😊

My name means 'little goth'. I can't say it has ever affected my life 😆. Also my DN Malachy is the first and only child for my sis, I doubt the meaning of his name as 'second' is going to somehow affect him forevermore

Hibernatalie · 12/01/2024 18:20

100% Marlow

DancingLedgend · 12/01/2024 18:26

Mo.

Just Mo.

Anything else is superfluous.

OldBeyondMyYears · 12/01/2024 19:20

Why does it have to begin with 'M' - this is so restrictive.

Samzzz · 12/01/2024 20:18

OldBeyondMyYears · 12/01/2024 19:20

Why does it have to begin with 'M' - this is so restrictive.

DH has same first Initial as his Dad and same middle name, James. I named our first son and my DH would like our second boy to follow the same initials as him and his Dad- I guess starting his own little tradition. Personally I think it’s a bit silly but it’s important to DH so I’m trying to find an M name we both agree on.

Malachi or Macauley. Love both

TiredMummma · 12/01/2024 21:49

This is a child and they'll have to spell it for the rest of their lives Macaulay is just a bit mean.

Best name by far is Malachi James - it's the only normal one that is pronounced simply.

Maddox is nice and know enough

Misha is a female name, (Mischa Barton?)ans Marlow makes me think of Bone Marrow.

BodyKeepingScore · 13/01/2024 06:18

Not keen on Macauley or Maddox tbh

KirstenBlest · 13/01/2024 10:48

@TiredMummma , Misha (name) - Wikipedia. Boy's name usually
