After some thoughts on the name Laine/Lane? I would be leaning towards the spelling with the i for pronunciation reasons. Any other one syllable names I may like similar to this please? X

I've heard it used as a nickname for Elaine so reminds me of that. Is it a girls name?

Falkenburg · 10/01/2024 23:48

A sibling for Avenue and Street?

Lane or Laine is awful.

Falkenburg · 10/01/2024 23:51

Claire
Blythe
Faith
Elle

I’m thinking it’s a boys name such as Lane Frost? Personally I like it. I know a couple and I also know a girl called Lainey. Can you confirm boy or girl before I suggest alternatives?

KnickerlessParsons · 11/01/2024 00:01

I know an adult Laine. Only ever met one. I like it.

crumblingschools · 11/01/2024 00:05

I would think you have missed out the E at the beginning

welshshawl · 11/01/2024 08:00

I would probably use for a girl. My daughter has a unisex name, probably more boyish sounding so I've been considering what name to use next to compliment one another

Exactly, it's missing the E at the beginning.

HarpyRampant · 11/01/2024 08:19

It’s French for ‘wool’.

HarpyRampant · 11/01/2024 08:19

And would be pronounced, roughly, ‘Len’.

Buffypaws · 11/01/2024 08:22

Was Laine… and I’m searching my memory here so might be wrong… the New York best friend of Stacey McGill of the babysitters club? In that case why not 😂

It you like one-syllable American type names that could also be sort of routes … how about Brooke?

Nineteendays · 11/01/2024 08:23

I think it looks like you missed off the E too

idontlikealdi · 11/01/2024 08:26

I know a female Elaine you goes by Lainey and a male Lane. Laine just looks like you knocked off the e

Wictc · 11/01/2024 08:28

I like the spelling Lane, but Laine would guarantee the pronunciation. Reminds me of Gilmore Girls. I like it.

HoleGuacamole · 11/01/2024 08:32

I like Laine and would consider using it. I think it feels like a more modern version of Elaine.

WashItTomorrow · 11/01/2024 08:32

What could be the difference between Laine and Lane pronunciation-wise. Surely they’re the same. I don’t like either as a name.

WhamBamThankU · 11/01/2024 08:33

It's a horrible name and the only child I know with the name is also horrible. Not sure if there's correlation but still.

RowanMayfair · 11/01/2024 08:34

It has to be Elaine, Lainey or Lane. Laine looks wrong.

sawnotseen · 11/01/2024 08:34

Agree with @idontlikealdi / it's an abv l of Elaine

TeabySea · 11/01/2024 08:35

I know the male name with spelling Layne as in Layne Staley who was the singer with Alice in Chains.

sondot · 11/01/2024 08:35

Wictc · 11/01/2024 08:28

I like the spelling Lane, but Laine would guarantee the pronunciation. Reminds me of Gilmore Girls. I like it.

What's the pronunciation, if not Lane?

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 11/01/2024 08:38

I like it.

welshshawl · 11/01/2024 08:42

Think of Welsh valleys accent... they don't say the A in lane, pane, Dale, Gabe, male like "ay". Which for me is a deciding factor for the spelling.

Yes @Buffypaws I think you hit the nail on the head... I do like the one syllable American vibe names but with a sniff of modern vintage 🤣 what a mix!!! I hope that makes any sense at all

How do they say it? That's what I'm asking.
