Sibling for Erin

Hoping all you wise baby name experts can help us with some ideas.

DD1 (2yrs) is Erin. We picked this after much indecision. I loved that it was two-syllables and didn't end in an "ie/ey/ee" or "a" sound. A lovely strong consonant at the end. All four of DH's grandparents were Irish and he liked the link to his heritage. In case relevant, we live in the UK and have no plans to move to Ireland.

DC2 is due in April. We are set for a boys name but struggling for if this baby is another girl.

I quite like Maeve, but one of DD1's nursery friends has just had a baby sibling called Maeve and it does seem very popular at the moment. I also quite like Bridget, but DH can't get past the Bridget Jones' Diary connection.🙈But I wouldn't say I'm particularly enthused by either.

I'm sure there must be lots of other names out there that would sound lovely with Erin (not necessarily with an Irish link), but just massively lacking in inspiration at the minute.

Please help! 😅

Thanks so much everyone! Some great ideas here.

I really like Niamh but i have a recollection that DH vetoed it for DD1 on account of it being someone he went to school with. Maybe I'll refloat this time...

Imogen occurred to me the other day so this could be some validation. Ive also been mulling over Orla and Iris, which i see have come up a couple of times. Great to hear of the love for Maeve but still slightly concerned at whether the nursery connection is too close. Maybe we can just move 😂Had never considered Ingrid but i do like it!

I also quite like Roisin but wondered how we'd get on with the inevitable dropping of the fadas?

Aoife was high on the list for DD1 so doesn't feel right for this baby (to the point where we called her both for a few days to see which suited her more). Shame as i do absolutely love it.

Some lovely names have been mentioned that are in our family and friends circle (Grace, Beatrix, Rosalind). So many great baby girl names at the moment!

Niamh, Imogen, Orla, Iris and Maeve all sound perfect with Erin to me and are all lovely names. I
wouldn’t worry about a child at nursery having the same name - the name is forever and she will only be in nursery with the other girl for a short time.

OwlWeiwei · 08/01/2024 21:38

I was going to suggest Aoife or Orla. Orla especially goes really well with Erin and imo is a gorgeous name.
