Any thoughts? The more honest the better! DD will be our first and we’re struggling, the only name that DH and I can agree on is Poppy but I’m not so sure

Another vote for twee and cutesy.

Cross post with you OP. I agree Darcey is a lovely name and I am impressed it only took you and dh one day plus one hour to reach a mutual decision!

I really don't understand the "twee and cutesy" thing. Everything poppies represent is the opposite of twee and cutesy.

ChanelNo19EDT · 03/01/2024 05:39

I like the meaning, it's the sound

It's the sound of Poppy that's twee and infantile. The meaning is lovely

I love Poppy! It’s my top choice if I am ever blessed with a baby girl. So cute. Interestingly when I told my sister she said it was her favourite too but she didn’t use it as it sounded silly with her P surname. I’ve heard that in the USA people often call their Grandad ‘Poppy’ and this is why it’s not a popular girls name in the USA. However, I live in the UK and we don’t have this so it’s a popular girls name here. I know a couple of adult Poppys and think nothing of it - so I find it very strange when people comment that it’s a childish name. It’s just a lovely, pretty name.

I also love the name Darcy and funnily enough this was my favourite girls name for a long time before I fell in love with Poppy. Lovely choice ☺️

Can't abide it. It's the 'pop' sound. Urgh.
I 🤔 think I have issues though. I can't stand the term "Pop of colour" either!

I can't warm to it, sorry, it's obviously silly.
MNers say scathing things about my own name, btw, so that's just how it goes. You can't please everyone.
