Hello! I’m looking into both gender names as we are having a surprise. I really love the name Otto for a boy, middle name will be Luke as it’s a family name. Husband is yet to be convinced on Otto. Wondered what peoples opinions were on Otto Luke?
Other names I’m thinking of…

Oscar Luke
Wilfred Luke
Reuben Luke
Bodhi Luke
August Luke
Wilbur Luke
Bowen Luke

Any suggestions would be most welcomed!

Dh has a godson Otto and I really like it.

Koala3d · 26/12/2023 21:36

Maybe see if there’s a nickname or shortening you like. I think it’s a hard one to find an ‘affectionate’ name to use

Borisisafecklesstoad · 26/12/2023 21:37

I have one and love it as a name (is name of partners favourite uncle). Its a lovely name

BingoMarieHeeler · 26/12/2023 21:39

Love Otto, know a few! Was on our list but didn’t use as would be pretty random choice given our heritage.

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/12/2023 21:41

Love Otto and the female variant of Ottilie.

PuffyShirt · 26/12/2023 21:41

I know a little Otto. I like it.

All of your names are ok apart from Bodhi which is an abomination.

ChateauDuMont · 26/12/2023 21:43

Otto is lovely.

Oscar Luke - okish
Wilfred Luke - not keen
Reuben Luke - not keen
Bodhi Luke - bloody awful.
August Luke - unimaginative
Wilbur Luke - no
Bowen Luke - reminds me of Jim Bowen

ANightmareBeforeChristmas · 26/12/2023 21:43

I prefer Wilfred and Reuben from your list.

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/12/2023 21:48

Otto Reuben or Otto Wilfred

OccasionalHope · 26/12/2023 21:50

I like Oscar better but Otto is OK. It is very German though.

myphoneisbroken · 26/12/2023 21:51

I love Otto!

Wishiwasalittlebitsmaller · 26/12/2023 21:53

Otto is very sweet and feels like it works for all of their ages from baby to old man.
other names are nice too though not a fan of Bodhi xx

WombatCowgirl · 26/12/2023 21:58

I love Otto but does it have to Luke exactly as it just sounds a bit abrupt and list-like, especially if you have a one syllable surname eg Otto Luke Brown. Would you consider Otto Lucas or Luca?

Rufffles · 26/12/2023 22:15

Otto is a very cute name!

SkaneTos · 26/12/2023 22:16

Otto is a great name! And I think Otto Luke works well.

wasanneofcleves · 26/12/2023 22:18

I love Otto but I don't think it goes with Luke. They are two very different styles of names IMO. Otto feels old fashioned and strong with a Germanic feel whereas Luke (even though I know it's biblical) feels more modern and a bit less classy and dignified.

PatchworkElmer · 26/12/2023 22:26

Otto is lovely, the nicest on your list IMO.

Lamore · 26/12/2023 23:16

Thank you all!! Really appreciate all the comments.

I do agree with everyone on Bodhi, wild card one on the list!

My late grandad was Arthur Luke. My dad’s middle name is Arthur. Brothers middle name Luke. Does Otto Arthur seem better?

Some others …
Rupert Luke
Caspar Luke
Roland Luke
Douglas Luke (Dougie)

I’m surprised how many like Otto tbh. Not for me tbh, but then none on your list are my cup of tea, maybe Wilbur.

wasanneofcleves · 27/12/2023 07:56

Yes Otto Arthur is fantastic!! It was actually my boys name had I had a boy!

MerryChristmasToYou · 27/12/2023 10:26

Take out the middle name for now and concentrate on the first name and the surname. Both Luke and Arthur are good classic names.

August - No. I don't know how to say it. Au-GUST or like the month?
Bodhi - Awful
Bowen - It's a surname. Owen seems more of a first name. OK as middle name but not as a first.
Caspar - like but will get Casper a lot
Douglas (Dougie) - like it
Oscar - ok but wouldn't choose it
Otto - a bit too trendy for me, ok but wouldn't choose it
Reuben - ok but a bit wet-sounding
Roland - will be Roly
Rupert - the bear
Wilbur - the boar
Wilfred - ok but wouldn't choose it

Keep:
Arthur
Caspar
Douglas (Dougie)

Love Otto and know an awesome one.

Lamore · 27/12/2023 11:16

I love Ottilie but my step daughter is Amalie so sadly, Ottilie won’t work as too similar.

I love the name Otto.

Bippitybobbityboing · 27/12/2023 17:22

Otto is lovely, I once knew twin boys called Otto and Arlo, they were the cutest children I have ever laid eyes on, but quite "spirited" with it 😆

Not sure Otto Luke flows particularly well, I'd go for Otto Luca or Otto Lucas as they soften the final sound a bit.
