Holly

We are thinking about Holly for our daughter. Give me your honest opinion, please.

Is it too dated? We know that most Hollys are probably in their 20s and 30s now. We love it and I personally think that between all of the girls named Ivy and Daisy it doesn't stand out in a bad way.

Other name on our list are: Ruby, Lily, Ella, Poppy, Stella. We would appreciate comments on our list.

I love Holly. DS2 would of been Holly had he been a she 😁.

I don't think it's dated at all, or ever will.

Arosebyanyname · 15/12/2023 21:43

If you are due in December I think it's clichéd, otherwise it's fine. If you love it then it's certainly not a name that's going to cause raised eyebrows so go for it!

Lindy2 · 15/12/2023 21:44

I have a Holly. She's definitely younger than 20.

I love the name and it really suits her.

ODFOx · 15/12/2023 21:45

Lovely name except for girls with Birthdays between 15 Dec-15Jan or if your surname is Berry or Thorne.

HollyGolightly4 · 15/12/2023 21:45

I think It's lovely! 😉

cringingatchristmas · 15/12/2023 21:47

I know a few Hollies age from 9-20. They all have December birthdays.

pinkberet · 15/12/2023 21:48

I've taught two Holliys in the past few years. Good kids

ActDottie · 15/12/2023 21:55

Holly is a lovely name :) not dated at all

Neverknewidfindmyselfonhere · 15/12/2023 22:06

I have a December daughter called Hollie. Have you considered the spelling? Obviously I think it's a lovely name :)

FreshWinterMorning · 15/12/2023 22:07

Oh what a cute name! Go for it @JessieIsabelle 😁

MumChp · 15/12/2023 22:08

I love Hollie/Holly!

marmitegirl01 · 15/12/2023 22:22

I have a 17 yr old H. She's the only one we know. So not an off the wall name but not common ( here) either.

Seamist22 · 15/12/2023 22:24

Love Holly! Well known without being too common, nice for a child, teen or adult, not shortened as a rule (which I like) and sounds pretty without being twee.

I like Ruby and Ella from your short list for similar reasons.

Poppy and Lily are pretty but sound nicer on children than adults (to me). I still really like them though.

ZiggyZowie · 15/12/2023 22:31

I've got a Holly born January ,98.

I thought noone would be able to get spelling wrong but annoyingly there's some people putting " I E ". at end

QuackyDuckMcDucky · 15/12/2023 22:46

I really like Holly.

Apart from Stella which I don’t like at all, all your other names are just really popular if not overused girls names that you hear everyday.

HoHoHoliday · 15/12/2023 22:49

It's a lovely name, especially for a winter baby. I don't think it's dated at all, nature names will always be timeless despite peaks and troughs.

theduchessofspork · 15/12/2023 23:08

Love Stella
Really like Ruby
They are both sparky

Holly is just a bit ploddy but it’s better than the drippy Lily and Poppy. Ella is just way overdone.

DuchessOfSausage · 15/12/2023 23:16

It's pretty, not twee and would be fine for a child or adult. The other names are fine too but Lily and Ella are overused.

Would not use Holly with a surname like Bush.

Spaghettieis · 15/12/2023 23:19

I think it’s nice, and not dated at all. If anything it’s less dated/more classic than others on your list - didn’t Ruby have quite the moment circa 15 years ago? Lily, Ella and Poppy are very overused and Stella just makes me think lager.

JessieIsabelle · 16/12/2023 14:45

Thanks! We also considered Hollie, it's lovely, but I like Holly a bit better. True, Ruby had its moment 15-20 years ago, but I guess it feels a bit younger to me.

I love Holly and I think we're going to go with it, but I might open one more thread to ask people which they prefer.

I have a Holly, mid 20's. However I know a few much younger Holly's, below the age of 10. I think it's such a pretty name and ages well.

PubicZirconia · 16/12/2023 14:55

Lovely

Watchthedoormat · 16/12/2023 15:13

Love it.

I do prefer Stella though.

WashItTomorrow · 16/12/2023 16:05

It’s OK. I do think it’s dated, though.
Stella is the best out of your list.

Not a fan of Holly at all. Love Hayley though.

My very favourite is Ella.

Stella is nice
Lily nice, but prefer Lillian.
Ruby is lovely.
Poppy is sweet for a baby or toddler but after that it sounds too babyish.
