Would appreciate thoughts on our shortlist, a few weeks to go and I’d like to narrow down to two or three names before she arrives and then pick from those few at birth. We seem to keep adding to the list rather than making it shorter so need some outside opinions.

Elodie
Daisy
Ruby
Lucy
Eden
Matilda
Imogen
Delilah

My favourite from your list is daisy.
I know quite a few little Delilah’s so I think that’s rising in popularity if that bothers you.

Imogen and Elodie are ok, I don’t like any of the others.

roombaclean · 13/12/2023 13:18

Elodie, Daisy, Imogen and Matilda.

marshmallowfinder · 13/12/2023 13:20

Eden or Imogen. Dislike the others, especially Elodie which sounds like the letters L.O.D.

StellaOlivetti · 13/12/2023 13:22

Personally, from your list I would pick from Lucy, Imogen and Daisy.
Elodie is very of the moment which would put me off, and I’ve never been able to like Matilda, Eden or Ruby.

Doublebiscuit77 · 13/12/2023 13:24

Imogen.

Matilda, Daisy or Lucy could be good middle names.

Theoldwoman · 13/12/2023 13:38

Ruby and Lucy are my favourite.

Wrongsideofpennines · 13/12/2023 13:43

I love Imogen, Ruby and Eden.

We added loads of names to our lists so they weren't even shortlists by the time they arrived. But once they were here we knocked quite a few off immediately as they didn't look like them.

SkaneTos · 13/12/2023 13:45

They are all lovely names!

My favourites are Lucy, Matilda and Imogen.

(Today is Saint Lucy's Day, by the way!)

slowwalkofshame · 13/12/2023 13:47

I like Imogen and Matilda

SquigglePigs · 13/12/2023 13:51

Ruby and Lucy are my favourites from your shortlist.

Elodie - ok but I don't love
Daisy - lovely, but maybe a bit cutesy for an adult with no obvious nickname
Ruby - really like and was on my list
Lucy - lovely, timeless
Eden - nice but getting very popular
Matilda - really nice, good on child and adult, several nickname options
Imogen - I don't like this - not sure why but never have
Delilah - ok but don't love

MerryChristmasToYou · 13/12/2023 13:58

Lucy - like
Imogen - nice but I don't like Immy
Daisy - ok, slightly twee
Ruby - ok but a bit more like a pet's name
Matilda - a bit overused, don't like Tilly or Tilda

Elodie - ok but nothingy and she'll be Ellie
Eden - a bit downmarket
Delilah - dreadful

HAF1119 · 13/12/2023 14:00

Matilda or Eden

Sleepnplay · 13/12/2023 14:14

I love Imogen (I have one), Matilda and Lucy from your list. The others aren't really my taste but they're all nice enough names. Keep them all in mind, with some front runners, and see how you feel when you meet her.

MerryChristmasToYou · 13/12/2023 14:17

Try the different names with the surname. Ditch any that sound silly (e.g. Eden Gardner, Matilda Rice or Ruby Murray)
or don't flow (e.g. Imogen Jennings, Daisy Davies)

TrustPenguins · 13/12/2023 14:23

Imogen or Matilda are my favourites.

Ruby and Daisy are OK

Lucy and Eden are my least favourites.

ArtichokeAardvark · 13/12/2023 14:29

Daisy, Lucy or Imogen. I wanted to use Imogen but DH vetoed...

Matilda also ok as I like Tilly, but there are several Matildas at my school so it's on the up. Would bother me, but may not faze you!

Elodie makes me think of Lord of the Rings for some reason - it's an elf name! Really dislike Ruby and Eden, and Delilah was my great grandmother's poodle.

mathanxiety · 13/12/2023 15:04

I like Daisy, Eden, and Matilda from your list.

Mumofgirls2017 · 13/12/2023 15:07

Daisy, Matilda or Delilah! Love your list

ChateauDuMont · 13/12/2023 15:08

Elodie
Daisy
Ruby
Lucy
Eden
Matilda
Imogen
Delilah

They are all ok.

Do you like Eloise or Francesca?

LonelyMom123 · 13/12/2023 15:34

Not keen on Delilah or Eden but the others are lovely. My favourites are Elodie and Matilda.

Seamist22 · 13/12/2023 15:34

Lovely list!

I love Lucy (one of my dd’s name) and Imogen best.

Ruby and Matilda are also lovely.

I used to know an Elodie and the name grew on me, it’s pretty

Daisy is pretty but harder to imagine using as an adult

Delilah and Eden aren’t to my taste

My favorites from your list are Matilda and Delilah, also used to like Imogen and Elodie.
Ruby is such bouncy name, but I would like it more if it wasn't a word.

Sofiatheworst · 13/12/2023 20:08

Thank you all for your comments. A few of you have echoed my worries about some of the names which is really helpful.

OP posts:
dressedforcomfort · 13/12/2023 20:10

Lucy is the nicest IMO

Pemba · 13/12/2023 20:18

They're all really nice names. (Sorry, no help!) My favourite is probably Imogen.
