A brother for Isabel - which one?

Found out we’re having a little boy and struggling to pick a name!

We have a daughter named Isabel.

Would love to know which of the below people think works best as a sibling pair?

William
Theodore
Henry
Leo (DH likes Leonard but I’m not too sure)

We had also discussed: Sebastian, Nathan, Arthur, Albert, Ethan and Otto but only one of us is keen on each, so we seem to be narrowing on the above.

In general, we like fairly classic names, and bonus if it can work in other languages (German, Spanish). Surname is two syllables and starts with a “Z”.

Popularity isn’t too much of a concern for us (as you can tell given our daughter’s name).

Thanks in advance!

TBH they are all nice names and all perfectly well

Also think Leonard is fine / coming back

.. I guess Theo seems especially madly popular right at this moment, and Leo sounds v similar.. William is perhaps least used right now (you can double check on darkgreener) - otherwise stick the names in a hat

Thank you! Yes, I suppose Theo and Leo are very similar sounding and probably both very popular (though we do like the sound of both!).

All go well and all nice names. I'd pick Isabel and Henry.

William - fine
Theodore - dislike
Henry -fine
Leo (DH likes Leonard but I’m not too sure) - both fine

Leon?

OopsieeDaisy · 07/12/2023 11:00

William and Henry are both lovely names and both go well with Isabel.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 07/12/2023 11:23

All nice but would go with Henry.

Fifthtimelucky · 07/12/2023 11:27

I agree that William or Henry would go best. James would also go well.

Bells3032 · 07/12/2023 11:27

All lovely to be honest. all in the same vein of being quite classic. Edwards also an option i think goes nice/is in the same vein

Thank you all! I do quite like Edward but not too keen on “Ed”..

I love Theodore (although you can guarantee there will be other boys in the same class with that name too😂)

I like Leo

Don't like Henry and William, they're quite "Middle aged" man names imo and don't sound particularly nice on young children.

KirstenBlest · 07/12/2023 12:09

Henry is a top 10 name in the England & Wales having entered the top 50 less than 20 yrs ago.
William has been popular for about 40 yrs and only recently dropped out of the top 20.

Maddox
Milo

It’s not on your list but my Isabel has a brother named Oliver. They roll off the tongue nicely together.

JamSandle · 07/12/2023 12:14

William.

Absolutely love the name Oliver.

Unfortunately it's my partners name so we couldn't use it for our son😅

doliketobebesidetheseaside · 07/12/2023 12:19

Thanks! Oliver is lovely, but used elsewhere in the family very closely so not an option for us unfortunately.

Henry is my favourite by far - classy and traditional

Leo - never met a nice one and feels quite informal for when he’s older
William - hate the inevitable Will/Willy nicknames
Theodore - makes me think of the chipmunk! Love Theo on a little boy but not for a grown man

Leonard feels like a stripper name!!
Love Sebastian, Nathan + Arthur from your other list.

How about Alexander?

purpledahlias · 07/12/2023 12:37

I like Leonard best or how about Marcus or Quentin?

Mumofgirls2017 · 07/12/2023 12:37

They all work well. I’d pick Henry!

But Teddy or Ted might work?

Calmdown14 · 07/12/2023 12:52

Daniel?

Doublebiscuit77 · 07/12/2023 13:50

All go well with Isabel. I knew an Isabel with brothers George and Thomas.

William, Henry and Leo are my favourite from your list. I really like Sebastian, Arthur, Albert and LOVE Otto from your other list.

Others could be Felix or Wilfred.

JoanThursday · 07/12/2023 13:54

My grandparents were Isabel and Edward! We're seeing a resurrection of both names (together and separately) in our family. Love them.

Theoldwoman · 07/12/2023 14:31

All great but Isobel and William are my favourite sibset.
