Italian or Spanish name for baby girl

🆘 Hello lovely mums, I desperately need some help choosing a name for my baby girl who arrived early and rather dramatically and I'm now nearing the registration date and still haven't decided on a name. I keep thinking I have decided on a name I love and then finding something wrong with it. We are Italian/Spanish heritage and my 3 year old son has a very Italian name beginning with A. For that reason I would love for baby girl to have an 'A' name too, although it's definitely not necessary. I love names that have to do with the sky, sun, stars, gods/goddesses or anything classical Italian/Spanish/Latin etc. I'm not keen on the super popular names - of which there are now a lot with Italian roots. My absolute favourite name is Aurora but our last name is very short beginning 'Ro' and it just sounds terrible with the R repeated three times. In fact any name with an R near the end doesn't sound great. For example, I like Aria too but even that sounds like too many R's near each other. The R is not a deal-breaker but probably trying to avoid. Any help would be so appreciated! Starting to go stir crazy! Xx

Love your Aria option OP - it’s beautiful, I wouldn’t let the R issue stop you from using it!

Aurora is the closest to your requirements. It’s Italian, means the dawn.

Or Aria, air?

The op lists those two names as incompatible with her surname.

Yep for some reason I read stars/gods/goddesses etc and went straight to Greece! Oh well. Second half of my list more Italian/Spanish, hopefully some useful to OP.

Alba and Aitana are extremely common in Spain. Not my choice for a newborn right now.

Consider Saints names.

Felicidades!

I have an Italian partner and we have three boys. If we had a girl I would have wanted to call her Allegra. It means lovely and joyful too xx

adriftabroad · 06/12/2023 19:22

Yes, Allegra is lovely!

Melassa · 06/12/2023 19:44

My Italian friends and relatives (of varying ages) with A names are:
Annalisa
Alice
Alessia
Agnese
Asia
Ada
Aida
Azzurra
Ambra
Agata
Amalia
Adele
Astrid
Assunta
Adriana

there’s also Ariel and Atene from mythology but I’ve not heard them used much.

if you want celestial bodies you could use Gaia, which is the classic name for planet Earth. Sole is also becoming popular, but most of the planets are masculine. Venere is probably too much of a burden for a child.

I have a friend called Nausicaa from the Odyssey, her parents met at liceo classico… another name is Olimpia which is still used by various ages.
