Italian or Spanish name for baby girl

🆘 Hello lovely mums, I desperately need some help choosing a name for my baby girl who arrived early and rather dramatically and I'm now nearing the registration date and still haven't decided on a name. I keep thinking I have decided on a name I love and then finding something wrong with it. We are Italian/Spanish heritage and my 3 year old son has a very Italian name beginning with A. For that reason I would love for baby girl to have an 'A' name too, although it's definitely not necessary. I love names that have to do with the sky, sun, stars, gods/goddesses or anything classical Italian/Spanish/Latin etc. I'm not keen on the super popular names - of which there are now a lot with Italian roots. My absolute favourite name is Aurora but our last name is very short beginning 'Ro' and it just sounds terrible with the R repeated three times. In fact any name with an R near the end doesn't sound great. For example, I like Aria too but even that sounds like too many R's near each other. The R is not a deal-breaker but probably trying to avoid. Any help would be so appreciated! Starting to go stir crazy! Xx

Love your Aria option OP - it’s beautiful, I wouldn’t let the R issue stop you from using it!

Chiara is lovely. Means the same as Claire, right?

EverybodyLTB · 08/12/2023 00:12

I knew a Tiny - whose proper name was Valentina

squishee · 08/12/2023 00:15

Not an A name, but Graziella.

Ellmau · 08/12/2023 00:31

I like Allegra best of your shortlist.

Have you ruled out Alessandra/Alejandra?

babbi · 08/12/2023 00:52

Definitely stick with Aria .. it’s beautiful.
if you really worry about the R surname then go for Alba .
Congratulations on your little girl .

Carlotta. Charlotte comes from the Latin root.

I think that all of the names on your shortlist are lovely but if I had to choose I’d go with Isabella.

Fabulous nickname potential (Izzy, Ella, Bella) and no risk of spelling/pronunciation issues in any language. Lucia is a close second for me, the only reason I would be put off is because the one that I know spends her life correcting people on how to say it!

I love Ofelia.

But I only love it the Spanish spelling above (as opposed to English Ophelia)
And only the Spanish pronunciation

I think it sounds so lovely

This is the first time ive seen Olympia spelt Olimpia which may be common in European countries but Olympia looks so much better.

What have you decided @Fjrmum2? I have an Isabella and LOVE the name still. I also love Alba, and if I ever have another dd I'd definitely consider naming her Alba. Gioia is also gorgeous - just in my opinion people might struggle to pronounce it. Good luck and please let us know what you have decided xx
