Italian or Spanish name for baby girl

🆘 Hello lovely mums, I desperately need some help choosing a name for my baby girl who arrived early and rather dramatically and I'm now nearing the registration date and still haven't decided on a name. I keep thinking I have decided on a name I love and then finding something wrong with it. We are Italian/Spanish heritage and my 3 year old son has a very Italian name beginning with A. For that reason I would love for baby girl to have an 'A' name too, although it's definitely not necessary. I love names that have to do with the sky, sun, stars, gods/goddesses or anything classical Italian/Spanish/Latin etc. I'm not keen on the super popular names - of which there are now a lot with Italian roots. My absolute favourite name is Aurora but our last name is very short beginning 'Ro' and it just sounds terrible with the R repeated three times. In fact any name with an R near the end doesn't sound great. For example, I like Aria too but even that sounds like too many R's near each other. The R is not a deal-breaker but probably trying to avoid. Any help would be so appreciated! Starting to go stir crazy! Xx

Love Amaya! My favourite Spanish name 😁

JumpingJills · 06/12/2023 22:33

I also love Gaia which may be a little easier than Gioia to pronounce on first view

@Doublebiscuit77 thanks for your suggestions, I like Alessia a lot - I was worried it sounded too similar to Alexa so I had ruled it out. But what do you think?

I didn't notice Alessia sounding like Alexa, to me they are slightly different vibes.

Thank you all for your help and wonderful suggestions! I'm down to these 8 names now:

Alba
Gioia
Allegra
Lucia
Valentina
Alessia
Bella
Isabella

I like them all and I think there are probably pros and cons to them all too. Allegra I'm still not 100% convinced because of the R near the end followed by our R surname. OH prefers Bella and Isabella, I prefer Alba and Gioia, and the ones in the middle we both like but perhaps not quite strongly enough to come top.

Any final thoughts? I have 4 days to decide 😬

I'd go for isabella, so classic and beautiful and easy to pronounce in every language. Can be shortened to Bella too which is also on your list. It was on my list for dd and I still wish I'd gone for it!

Chiara is a beautiful Italian girls' name

KatPatPat · 07/12/2023 15:21

Alessia is beautiful

Suchardchoccy · 07/12/2023 15:32

Congratulations!

My husband is Spanish and I think Ana is a fairly common name in Spain.

My SIL is Aurora 😊

Aurora is the closest to your requirements. It’s Italian, means the dawn.

Or Aria, air?

But as OP said, unusable due to her surname, which I agree with. So not helpful!

I know a beautiful young woman called

Inez

She is an amazing person - a warrior

I know it's not an 'A' name

Bella is a gorgeous name but a very popular dog name at the moment.

Of those 8, Alba or Alessia.

But I'd stick with Aurora - you like it, it's identical both in Spanish and Italian and, actually, I rather like the sound of the two R's with another R in the surname.

I know an Aurora Román and it sounds perfectly fine (especially if the surname is Spanish and the R is a strong RR sound).
