Family don't like baby's name

Expecting baby boy in 3 weeks and we can't get a name, the only name me and hubby have agreed on is Casey, but every single person I tell screws up there face and say naw I don't like that it's a girl's name,
My other kids are Jake, Annabelle and Jamie.
I don't want to call him it if people are going to make fun of the name.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Casey is definitely more of a boys name to me. It’s not my favourite name, but it’s perfectly fine and I wouldn’t think anything of it if we had a Casey in the family. Some people can be so rude.

Sennelier1 · 06/11/2023 19:58

To me Casey is a girl's name but if you tell me your Casey is a boy I will happily accept that and never-ever mention again I thought it was a girl 🤷🏼‍♀️

Jifmicroliquid · 06/11/2023 20:06

What a great name for a boy!
Ive only heard it used for a girl but I actually much prefer it for a boy.

If you like the name OP, then use it. Honestly, it’s got nothing to do with your family so don’t let their opinions ruin it for you.

I must say your other kid’s names are much nicer - how about Christopher nn Christy ? Casey is a bit random.

Jake, Annabelle and Jamie and ..
Casey - it is another AE sounding name so I wouldn't use it.
Other ideas ..
Clancy
Claude
Charles
Cecil
Cedric
Carl
Cassius
Casey is a boys' name more so, or at least a unisex one.

Lifeinlists · 07/11/2023 11:38

Cecil and Cedric?! Run those past your family OP.
I'm thinking they'll like Casey better.

missgeekypants · 08/11/2023 05:40

My son is called Casey.. He is 17 now and although I got the occasional raised Eyebrow, Never had any issues with his name and it suits him.
If you like it? Then don’t worry about what anyone else says ☺️

AuntMarch · 08/11/2023 08:00

I have a female cousin called Casey, but I know that her mum got totally opposite reaction with everyone saying it was a boys name!

People associate names with who they've known. There was a whole thread from a man called Sascha recently and that was split as to it being a m/f name IRRC.
If you and dad both love it, use it. If reactions have tainted it for you, pick something else and don't tell anyone!

Copasetic · 08/11/2023 08:04

For what it’s worth, I like it. That’s the trouble with knowing the sex first is then baby has a name already. If you came out with it after they would have to get over it.

FosterMommy13 · 08/11/2023 16:01

I think Casey is a lovely name and it goes really nicely with your other children’s names too 😊

suchandsuchandsuchandsuch · 09/11/2023 14:20

Always been a boys name to me I know 3 male Casey’s and no female. Ignore them, they’re rude for even saying it, you child your choice.

lls1990 · 09/11/2023 21:59

There are currently 2 Casey's in my class. One is a boy spelt Casey and the other is a girl called Kacie. Saying that, when I read a register and see Casey I am always expecting a girl to answer.
