Marlowe/Marlow?

Thoughts on Marlowe/Marlow for a girl?

Pregnant with my fourth, and are not finding out the gender until birth. Currently, we have Adelie, Clementine, and Elliott.

We have our boy name picked out, but are tied between Marlow/e and another Florence for girl.

It was highly debated when I posted about it earlier, and not sure it goes with my other kids, but something in me can't let it go!

OP posts:

Marlow/e is dreadful. Florence is 100x nicer.

Pinkpinkpink15 · 05/11/2023 10:50

Marlow is a nice place for a wander about & walk along the river.

for a baby...it's not for me.

florence was my Mum's mum's name (she died before I was born, so Nana doesn't seem right). It goes back through the generations. So does Adeline.

Marlow to me personally...is a rugby club! But I don't hate it?

MerryChristmasToYou · 05/11/2023 11:19

It's not great OP. She'll get the e added or left out, people will not know if she's a girl or a boy. It sounds a bit tacky.
Babies called Marlow in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)

Allmarbleslost · 05/11/2023 11:20

I know a male Marlow. Gets called Milo a lot because people mishear.

peaceinourtime · 05/11/2023 13:06

I had a work colleague who had a son Marlo. The only one I know of

MaloneMeadow · 05/11/2023 13:26

The only Marlowe I know is a dog.. and even then I think it’s a bizarre name! More of a place/surname.

Florence is so much nicer - love the nickname Flo

uncomfortablydumb53 · 05/11/2023 14:12

Florence is lovely and goes with your other names
I don't like Marlow sorry

NotFastButFurious · 05/11/2023 17:46

Marlowe is awful, Florence is lovely and goes much better with your other names.

SkaneTos · 05/11/2023 17:48

AuntieStella · 05/11/2023 17:48

The only one I know is a boy

I'm not wild about surname names on girls

Florence is a lovey name

Kiwiburgh · 05/11/2023 19:12

Florence is lovely, was on my list if I was having a girl.
I'm not such a fan of Marlow, sorry.

LittleBearPad · 05/11/2023 19:18

Place or murdered playwright. Not a first name.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/11/2023 19:19

Marlowe is awful and the only Marlowe's I've met are boys.

Dacadactyl · 05/11/2023 19:25

Florence is much nicer and goes better with your other names.

I thought Marlow was a place?!

Babyenroute · 05/11/2023 19:31

I know and Marlowe, she's two and is adorable

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/11/2023 19:34

There's a little Marlowe Rose at my son's junior parkrun - I don't love it or hate it as a name.

BoohooWoohoo · 05/11/2023 19:37

The only name that is worse is Harlow which isn't half as nice as Marlow.
Florence is much better and like your other children's names, it's obvious what sex she is. Marlow(e) would have their name spelt incorrectly and people would have no clue if they were going to meet a boy or girl.

newnamethanks · 05/11/2023 19:37

Henley's good too. Goring and Streatley not so much. Pangbourne?

theduchessofspork · 05/11/2023 19:38

Florence is nice and goes with your other names

Marlowe is just awful.

ElevenSeven · 05/11/2023 19:39

Knew a Marlow when I was young and she was lovely. Love the name. Go for it, Florence is massively overdone now IMO

Doesn’t make it a nice name.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 05/11/2023 19:40

I wouldn't.
Florence is lovely though. X

Onesipmore · 05/11/2023 19:41

Nice village in Bucks, sorry!

SausagesAreAmazing · 05/11/2023 19:41

I live near ish to Marlow. So obviously wouldn't.

For either sex.
