Newborn girl needs a name

seven201 · 27/10/2023 21:33

We have a newborn girl and aren't getting anywhere with names. She has a big sister called Isla.

I quite like Maeve, Alana and Neve but DH doesn't. He likes Amy and Tilly and is just rubbish at coming up with suggestions. We both don't mind Ava, so maybe she'll be Ava.

Coralie, Kristen, Fern, Jessie, Immy (not Imogen), Lara, Lana, Liv (not olivia), Ciara, Effie (don't even know what this one is short for!), Amelie, Elle, Poppy, Phoebe, Sienna I quite like.

I don't want a name that needs spelling out all the time or could be pronounced differently. No idea on middle names, but that can come later.

Names I don't like in case it helps with suggestions:
Jemima
Mabel
Evie
May
Arabella
Beatrice

Any ideas?

congratulations! I found girls name so hard so I was lucky I had all boys lol. How about Romilly, Harriet, Clementine, Mila, Caroline, Etta, Isadora, Juliet.

Schum · 27/10/2023 21:37

I love Fern from your list, sounds very sweet.

Needeyebrows · 27/10/2023 21:37

I know and Isla and her sisters are Emmy and Matilda.

NigelTheCrab · 27/10/2023 21:38

I think Effie was/is short for Euphemia? Or something like that?

If your DH likes Tilly , could Matilda be an option?

I think you’ve got lots of lovely names there though!
Ava and Phoebe are my favourites.

Our girl name was Naomi, if that helps - we had boys 😆

The Effie I know is Ophelia.

If you like Irish names (Maeve, Ciara, Niamh) what about Orla?

Savannah or Serena are similar to Sienna?

Juno? Matilda?

Whataretheodds · 27/10/2023 21:41

Amy is due a revival I think

I love Lara and Phoebe, and like Coralie even though I don't normally like frilly

If you both like Ava it sounds like that's the one. Ava is lovely, popular for a reason and very on par with Isla in that sense.

I have a Sofia and it's always getting spelt wrong lol

Lovelyjubleee · 27/10/2023 21:55

Ottilie (if DH likes Tilly)
Rosa
Madaline

theduchessofspork · 27/10/2023 21:57

I love Liv and Kristen

Ciara, Phoebe, Fern and Amy are quite nice. Coralie is ok if fussy.

Too many Avas. Too many Lara/Lena/Luna/Lyra\Lana names. The Immy, Effie and Tilly type names are too babyish for full names. Sienna is too hello Mag. I just don’t like Maeve. Niamh is ok but only if spelt properly.

I’d go for Liv or Kristen if I were you but otherwise maybe
