Newborn girl needs a name

seven201 · 27/10/2023 21:33

We have a newborn girl and aren't getting anywhere with names. She has a big sister called Isla.

I quite like Maeve, Alana and Neve but DH doesn't. He likes Amy and Tilly and is just rubbish at coming up with suggestions. We both don't mind Ava, so maybe she'll be Ava.

Coralie, Kristen, Fern, Jessie, Immy (not Imogen), Lara, Lana, Liv (not olivia), Ciara, Effie (don't even know what this one is short for!), Amelie, Elle, Poppy, Phoebe, Sienna I quite like.

I don't want a name that needs spelling out all the time or could be pronounced differently. No idea on middle names, but that can come later.

Names I don't like in case it helps with suggestions:
Jemima
Mabel
Evie
May
Arabella
Beatrice

Any ideas?

We can see this thread is quite old now but if you’ve landed here looking for baby naming inspo, our recently updated 1000 top girl names article may offer some ideas. Flowers

Isla and Fern sound lovely together. Both simple but pretty.

Maeve is nice. Maeva might work too if you like Ava. I also like Avery.

What about Matilda with Tilly as a nickname? Or Celeste with nickname Letty?

MerryMarigold · 27/10/2023 22:21

Oh yes. Also I know an Isla with sister Hallie.

OfMark87 · 27/10/2023 22:22

I love the name Fern, I know a little girl called fern and her sister is Ella so not far off Isla.

What about Aria?

Ssme92 · 27/10/2023 22:24

Hhmm I feel like a lot of your possibilities have numerous spellings.
Alana is also spelt Alannah
Neve is also spelt Niamh
Coralie is also spelt Coralee,
Kristen is also spelt Christen or Christin, Fern is also spelt Fearne,
Lara is too close to Laura which could be misspelled
Ciara (if its pronounced Kee-Ra) can also be spelt with a K

So from your names that are left I absolutely LOVE Immy, Effie and Tilly (although unlike 95% of Mumsnet, I am very pro naming the child what you will actually call them and not some longer name like Imogen just for the sake of giving them an "option" when they get older)

Thank you everyone. Bethan and Zara were on my list too, not sure why I missed them off. I like Sophia and Freya but can't do them.

To the PP who said a lot of them could be spelt differently - you're right. I might have to give up on that in my criteria. I quite like Ottilie that's been suggested, but not sure if it's a bit too 'trendy'. I do like Hazel too. I will go through all your suggestions with dh over the next few days.

Thank you for the congratulations. She took many years to make after secondary infertility/lots of treatment, surgeries and recurrent losses, so we're over the moon to finally have our family completed.

@seven201 Congratulations. Don't pressurise yourself to pick a name in a hurry. Enjoy it all.

MaloneMeadow · 27/10/2023 22:53

Out of your list Maeve and Lara are my favourites by far, both gorgeous and not too common.
Not a fan of Ava but adore Eva (DD’s middle name)

How about:
Isabel
Charlotte
Darcey
Ellie
Pippa

@seven201 Congratulations. Don't pressurise yourself to pick a name in a hurry. Enjoy it all.

Thank you. She's been here for 4 days and still can't believe it's actually happened! Getting asked for name updates A LOT, but we're not in a hurry. We do keep accidentally calling her Isla though Blush

Isla and Ava sound lovely together. Love the name Ava. I also like Poppy which my daughters name. If my son was a girl he would have been Alana so that's also got my vote. Other suggestions........

jadey1991 · 27/10/2023 23:12

Sienna or ciara I like

Blueggsandham · 27/10/2023 23:14

I'm wouldn't call her Ava - she will be called Eva and Eve, my daughter has one of those names, and people constantly mix it up with the other similar names. I wish I hadn't picked it now.

justanothernamechangemonday · 27/10/2023 23:23

Isla and Bonnie are lovely. Isla and Amy I think sound gorgeous. Isla and Connie / Penny / Lottie. I think lots of names ending in an "ee" sound would work.

Janefx40 · 28/10/2023 04:31

@seven201 loving this thread! ❤️❤️❤️

But as others have said take your time. We took a week to make our DD and 4 days with DS. People did drive me nuts asking but I'm glad we waited.

Xxx

StarTrek6 · 28/10/2023 05:27
