Is Rory too popular?

Really love Rory, but I've heard it's number 9.

Do you know many Rory's?

I've also heard that popular names aren't as popular as you'd think, due to there being so many different names now. In 2021, there were 3.6k baby girls named Olivia in the UK, which was the no.1 name that year - not that many really! So maybe I shouldn't worry about the list that much. But, I don't want him to be Rory SURNAME in his class either 🤦‍♀️

My 8 year old Rory is the only one in his school.

Snugglemonkey · 22/10/2023 23:47

I know 2, 1 is 23 the other 7.

MaraScottie · 22/10/2023 23:47

Try Ronan either.

lovelovelovex · 22/10/2023 23:53

My Rory is 6 and it was number 81 on the list then!

PickledScrump · 23/10/2023 08:17

I know of one who’s around 8. Olivia has been number 1 for years, yet the only one I know is in her 30s, yet my daughter’s year is full of Isabelle’s/isobel/izzy, willow, Alisha/tobys.

My younger daughter has an unusual Welsh name and we’ve met several others around the same age through toddler groups.

I don’t think you can really ever be certain they won’t end up being duplicates, just choose the one you love

I know three Rory's, they are 6,3 and 34. Its a nice name

17caterpillars1mouse · 23/10/2023 09:10

It's quite popular in my town in the Midlands aged 0-3. It's considered a bit downmarket though due to it being favoured by a certain demographic

Pumpkinpuddin · 23/10/2023 11:41

Think my heart is set on it!

crackersforcheese · 23/10/2023 11:44

I've got a 3 year old Rory and I'm not aware of others around us, I just loved the name!

peaceinourtime · 23/10/2023 14:06

Yes

Chocolatelover888 · 23/10/2023 14:15

I have a 5 week old Rory :) not too popular just a lovely name I think! Go for it. I always thought I’d go for more unusual names for my three but ended up with relatively popular ones as they’re just lovely names! Go with what you love.

SingingSands · 23/10/2023 14:40

I only know two - both 15 year olds. It's one of my favourite names, just love it.

Panicmode1 · 23/10/2023 14:55

I'm obviously a trendsetter.

My Rory is now 14 and I didn't know any others , bar one in his 40s at the time.

My eldest is Theo(dore) and everyone said how unusual it was when we chose it (he's 20) but now every second child is Theo it seems!!

Sorry, 9th in Scotland! We stay in Scotland.

Yes. I'm scottish and know a few Rory's from 30 years old to 8ish. Does it matter where it is on a list if you like it used.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 23/10/2023 17:41

I don't know any

Daisybuttercup12345 · 23/10/2023 17:51

Misspacorabanne · 23/10/2023 17:55

I have a Rory and he’s the only one in his school!

@Panicmode1 I also have a Rory and a Theodore :)

IDoughnutKnow · 23/10/2023 19:06

The only real problem with Rory is if people have problems saying the letter "R".

Olika · 23/10/2023 19:09

Really like the name

975zyx · 23/10/2023 19:09

I only know one and he’s in his fifties.

Myhusbandearns150k · 23/10/2023 19:13
