Love it

MontblancTheSecond · 15/10/2023 13:39

Adorable until one gets to 25.

Parakeetamol · 15/10/2023 13:40

Nope. Reminds of that irritating cat on playdays who used to hang around with peggy and whybird (who were also the worst)

TheaBrandt · 15/10/2023 13:40

Doesn’t work in an adult. See also Daisy and Honey

LilyLemonade · 15/10/2023 13:41

Bit too cutesy for me but otherwise nice.

Feliciacat · 15/10/2023 13:44

It’s on my list! If I ever have DCs that is! I appreciate what people say about Poppy being a little cutesy for an over 25. However, I think it can still work because for me, it has WW1 links. So poppies aren’t just about cuteness; they’re quintessentially English and have historical significance. She can always use her middle name anyway if it really does become an issue. I say go for it! I will!

I actually think Poppy is a lovely elderly name as well as a lovely baby name, but I am a bit worried about middle age. Although, as you said, there’s always the middle name choice

It’s fine as a name, if dull and uninspiring. I wouldn’t worry about it not not working for an adult. Poppy has been in the top hundred names since 1996. There are thousands and thousands of girls called Poppy. It won’t be anything other than a perfectly ordinary name for her generation.

clappyjay · 15/10/2023 14:13

It’s incredibly popular so I think it will be fine for adults because we will be completely accustomed to middle-age poppys in a few decades.

RainCloudsInTheSky · 15/10/2023 14:22

Like it! However I love the name Maisie and it’s often on here as cutesy and not suitable for an adult, so maybe they are my type of names!

BathTangle · 15/10/2023 14:26

Out of DS's year group of 10 children at primary there were 3 Poppys! They're now 18 so I'm expecting a wave of trainees at work called Poppy shortly.

dandelionandburdock36 · 15/10/2023 14:32

It’s a beautiful name. It’s not ‘dull and uninspiring’, Maureen is ‘dull and uninspiring’. Poppy is a fun, sweet name and as far as I’m concerned is as lovely as the flower it comes from.

Summermeadowflowers · 15/10/2023 14:33

It’s one of my favourite girls names. I think it is lovely.

Peepshowcreepshow · 15/10/2023 14:36

Poppy is lovely but I don't like 'Pop/pops' as a short version.

MartyFunkhouser · 15/10/2023 14:36

Might be cute on a baby, but it’s an embarrassing name for an adult.

Why? It’s been in use for generations.

lemonyellows · 15/10/2023 14:44

I have never liked this name

KirstinBlest · 15/10/2023 14:46

I like Maureen and Poppy. Both fine for an adult. Maureen would be a bit unusual for a baby, but if you'd told me 20 years ago that names like Evelyn, Edith and Mabel would become fashionable, I'd have probably said No way

Discomboobulated · 15/10/2023 14:46

I see it as a dogs name.

Yahyahs22 · 15/10/2023 14:49

I love it. I would use it if it wasn't for a very close friend being called poppy. She's 30 with a very high paid job, it suits her, doesn't make her sound cutesy at all

PrincessHoneysuckle · 15/10/2023 14:50

I prefer Violet and Iris for flower names

Poppy,Daisy and Rosie are too twee

Maskedpotato · 15/10/2023 14:51

It is a bit cutesy for my taste but on the other hand Daisy is often remarked upon as being cutesy but it was a very popular name at the turn of the 19th century so around 1950 there will have been lots of middle aged Daisys.

Wavessea · 15/10/2023 17:16

Twee

Headingforholidays · 15/10/2023 17:19

I know an adult Poppy (who was called it long before it became so popular) and it suits her fine, although it still doesn't really seem like a grown ups name ... But perhaps it will when there are lots more grown women called Poppy.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 15/10/2023 18:12

I've known two dogs and a cat called Poppy so I wouldn't give it to a child, sorry.
