This may not matter to you but it's a popular name atm with little ones, in case you didn't already know. My DC5 knows a few.

dressedforcomfort · 15/10/2023 18:13

A bit too cutesy for my taste. Suits a little girl but not a grown woman.

MaggieBsBoat · 15/10/2023 18:13

I’ve only known very cool Poppys.
Great name!

GrandHighPoohbah · 15/10/2023 18:18

I don't like it, especially not "Pops" as a short form. But then again I dislike all forms of "popping" - popping to the shops, popping things in the oven, popping on a jumper - so am probably not a good person to ask in this situation!

Pretendthatwearedead · 15/10/2023 18:19

I've always loved this name. It's like sunshine. I think it is lovely on an adult as well. And I'm a fan of traditional solid names. All my children have names that have consistently been commonly used. I'm 20 years we'll be used to lots of adult poppies and nobody will think twice about it.

Houselamp · 15/10/2023 18:24

I like it, its an upbeat name and one of those that is easy to spell and say.
Unfortunately it was ruined for me by a Poppy in my daughters school who misspelt it once in yr1 and was then called Poopy/Poops until secondary school.

FromAustin · 15/10/2023 18:26

I don't like it, it's ok on a small child I suppose but on an adult it's sounds wrong to me.

Pops is dreadful. There's a really annoying woman on tiktok that is Poppy and gets called Pops by her partner whilst they do irritating things...very much put me off. 😅

LambMomo · 15/10/2023 18:49

Two twee and cutesy for my liking. Also popular and always paired with the filler middle names of Grace/May/Rose. Done to death.

crackfoxy · 15/10/2023 18:51

Beautiful. I know an adult Poppy and a baby Poppy both suit the name perfectly.

Mintearo7 · 15/10/2023 19:03

I work with a Poppy and when typing it I have to triple check I haven’t put Poopy instead of Poppy. Sometimes this is due to autocorrect on my phone. I never made this association until I had to type it a lot. I just wanted to point out. I never mention it to anyone out loud as don’t want my colleague to have this negative connotation but I can imagine some cruel people might mention it.

Ladyj84 · 15/10/2023 19:50

Know to many poppy's teen ones and they've changed to a nickname

falalalalal · 15/10/2023 19:52

Love it. My grandma had a sister called Dolly (not her real name) and I thought that was wonderful too.

Vettrianofan · 15/10/2023 19:55

I know a dog called Poppy in my neighborhood. It is gorgeous.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 15/10/2023 19:57

There are so many young poppies around now the name will age with them, so it will be a normal
Middle aged name when you're dc is Middle Aged

LunchBoxPolice · 15/10/2023 19:58

Love it

itsmyp4rty · 15/10/2023 20:06

I love Poppy.

Lollyloup89 · 15/10/2023 21:20

I have a Poppy and I absolutely love it (obviously 😌)

peaceinourtime · 16/10/2023 09:04

Poppy’s a beautiful name that ages well from young child to in old age.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 16/10/2023 09:09

Agree with pp it’s similar (for me) to Daisy, Maisie etc,- sweet on a child or a pet but not on a middle aged woman. I would not want a name like that at my age.
can she have a longer name and use poppy as a nick name? Not that I can think of one ….
philomena?
philippa
oh, Penelope! That would be lovely

KirstinBlest · 16/10/2023 12:00

A child called Poppy, Daisy or Maisie will be an adult along with Alfie, Archie, Tommy etc
I don't particularly find the name Poppy childish any more than I do Lily

theduchessofspork · 16/10/2023 14:02

It’s very little girly

and all those names - Poppy, Lily, Daisy - are overdone

Cowlover89 · 16/10/2023 14:08

I had a guinea pig named poppy

SallyWD · 16/10/2023 14:47

People always say its a cutesy girls name and won't suit an adult. I just don't agree! It's not one of those cutesy names in my minds. I think it's cool.
I know a 50 year old Poppy who's a doctor and very arty/bohemian. The name suits her.
Love it.

TheaBrandt · 16/10/2023 15:33

Hmm. There’s a serious late middle aged news reporter called Daisy and I slightly cringe for her. What if you are not arty / bohemian? Sorry but I like stronger names for girls.

That seems more like a you issue than an issue with the name. Why would someone you don’t know having a normal name on the lighter, more feminine side of the spectrum make you cringe for them? If she really felt her name was unsuitable for her, she’d do what anyone else in that situation would do and change it. It’s free and easy to do.
