Just curious of opinions, as its the only name me and DH both seem to like.

It's such a pretty name but, somewhat reluctantly, I have to agree with PPs that it isn't a name that will serve your DD well. It does make me think of strippers for some reason!

However, I also think that these thoughts of strippers or toddler names will be fairly fleeting, that she will "own" her name and once people get to know her, they won't still be thinking of strippers. So there is that, and at least it will be character-building.

Alternatively, Honeysuckle is a good alternative, with Honey as a family nickname. Or maybe Hortensia, Honey for short?

I really like it

Startingagainandagain · 12/07/2024 16:57

No.

Certainly will not help when trying to be taken seriously at work and as an adult in general...

Use it as a middle name if you want but not as a first name.

I like it a lot but Mumsnet is incredibly hidebound when it comes to names. I’ve met a teenage Honey and she was lovely, I thought what a nice name it was. Jonathan Ross’ daughter is Honey. Not sure if that’s helpful though!

Ah, didn’t realise it was such an old thread! Would love to know what name they decided on 🙂

rainbowstardrops · 09/06/2025 15:11

I’m fairly sure the baby has been named by now!!!

midlifeattheoasis · 09/06/2025 15:13

Awful name

RobertaFirmino · 09/06/2025 15:32

Honey isn't even her real name, it's Susan.

Jeschara · 12/06/2025 16:33

Reminds me of adults who call everyone hun/hon. It's a name that sounds sickly sweet.

GiddyCrab · 12/06/2025 23:39

Lovely for a dog.

I know mine and DH opinion is all that matters. But I do worry about how other children will treat my child etc because of a name.. I do think its lovely. I also like that it isnt very common, but maybe thats for a reasonBlush

That’s a kid who isn’t running the country someday. Take a serious step back and think if its still sweet at 30. Hell no.

This is a name for life just not as a kid.

Think of your daughter and a lifetime of that name. You aren’t doing her any favours. Oh and Honey Boo Boo springs to mind.

AutumnFoxe · 13/06/2025 12:18

My cousin is called Honey and has no problems in life shes beautiful and well liked.

aquadog · 14/06/2025 19:44

This is the name of my golden retriever - as in, it's adorable but reserved strictly for a pet in my eyes!

EzWin2 · 18/06/2025 10:15

My little brothers girlfriend (21) is called Honey and it suits her. I say go for it!

Bigearringsbigsmile · 18/06/2025 10:16

Good for a golden retriever or a porn star

purplecorkheart · 18/06/2025 10:36

No, I can say with certainly that I am very grateful to my parents for not calling me Honey. By all means use is as a nickname for something like Hannah etc.
