Honey?

Just curious of opinions, as its the only name me and DH both seem to like.

One of our staff members is called Honey. It's a nice name and works just fine for her! No one thinks anything of it, just completely used to it and normal.

The exact reason to avoid.
Sweet on a toddler. Not on a 46 year old woman.

That says more about you than it does about her, TBH.

I do like it but it makes me think stripper name so I'd never use it.

I understand that it doesn't sound very professional. But in my DS and DD class, a lot of the children have "cute" names. Like pp said, I'm sure she'd be in a tide of other adults with names that aren't deemed as professional.

I would also be using a middle name, which she would obviously have the option to use if she didnt like her first name.

The stripper / sex worker comment has put me off slightly, I do see that..

Sounds a bit pornstar/stripper ish to me.
But if you use it people will soon get used to it.

I taught a Honey once. I felt ridiculous and inappropriate calling a child Honey. I remember a new TA looked at me funny when she thought I was calling her Honey as in the Americanised ‘sweetie’.

I mean yes, she will be amongst peers with equally ridiculous names. But likewise, there will also be lots of kids whose parents didn’t trip them up at the first stumbling block. .

Is it that common? I honestly don't think it'll be a tide, more like a trickle (compared to the majority tide of people with grown-up names who are not limited in their careers/life)

It’s a bit in the similar vein of Dolly, Princess, Baby etc. like a pet name rather than an actual name. Likely people will make certain assumptions based on the name. It’s not awful but not something I’d saddle a person with for their life

I think it's the kind of name that might be very cute for some people, but wouldn't suit lots of people at all. I wouldn't like to be called it, it wouldn't suit me.

use it as a middle name but it’s a bit twee and ick for IRL

Maybe you could put Honey as the middle name, and use it for as long as she's happy with it (which might be forever). One of my DBs is always known by one of his middle names rather than his first name.

Call her Melissa ( means honey in Greek apparently) on her birth certificate, then Honey can be her family name.

I really like it, also there’s a psychologist who is often on BBC news/ITV called Honey Langcaster James.

I know a little girl called Honey and it's so cute but to me it is a baby/toddler name not an adult name
