Honey?

Just curious of opinions, as its the only name me and DH both seem to like.

All my kids were called 'Honey' when they were little

And then they had their more conventional names

You can have both

It's not a human name for me.

I taught a girl called Honey and I was always uncomfortable saying her name. It was a very Blackadder "darling" type situation.

I think you also have to consider how your child might turn out. Yes, I can imagine a very attractive and confident young woman pulling off the name Honey. But thinking of myself as a self-conscious and very average looking teenager, it would have made my life hell.

Imagine being an adult and having to introduce yourself as Honey. 😂

I rarely say this on the mumsnet name boards but I think it is horrible. It is a name that will literally make people feel sick. It is the worst and most damaging form of sugar,. It is an insect excretion. The idea of honey is quite disgusting in itself, but anyone who is queasy is not going to want to have honey brought to mind and naming your child that is exactly what it will do. And even if you are not queasy to start with repeatedly having something so sickly brought to mind is likely to make many people feel queasy eventually

Nobody called Honey has any credibility in adulthood.

I would’ve hated my parents if they’d taken leave of their senses and given me such an insubstantial non-name.

It's one thing to dislike a name (and I do dislike this as a name) but this is seriously OTT and mad 😂😂

It's not really a proper name. As others have said, it's a bit like naming her 'darling' or 'sweetie'. Might seem cute whilst she's tiny, but I just wouldn't.

You might think it is "mad" but this is my reality - and I am pointing out to the OP that she is thinking of giving her child a name that will make some people literally feel sick, even if other people have not had that experience with the word

I think Honey is a cute name! I've met a Honey and she was really cute. There are lots of awful ugly names that many people on MN love. Ignore the posters who think Honey isn't a 'professional' or 'classy' name. There are plenty of women who have traditional names but aren't classy at all.

There are lots of people who are named after plants and food so why is Honey any different?

I very rarely comment on names I don't like, this is the second time in my life, that I can remember - the first was IRL and a non English speaker had chosen an English word she liked but had not understood the meaning of, and it would have been a particularly unpleasant name. That "baby" is now 30, and still enduringly grateful!

I like the name Honey. Entirely your choice if you and DH like it, no one else’s opinion matters. Good luck & many congratulations.

Plants, yes- but I'm darned if I can think of any foods used as names other than herbs. (Of course, there are dishes named after people)

I feel like it's a big name to live up to. I do like it but I wouldn't want to be called Honey now as an adult woman, I feel it conjures someone glamorous or bohemian and I'm neither!

It's a nick name, I call both of mine honey as a term of endearment. Even if you give a formal name you can still call her honey as a pet name

I like it. I've only known 2 Honey's at my school over the years but nobody batted an eyelid! I've come across far worse names trust me!
If you and DH like it then go for it! It's lovely.

Exactly. Hard enough to smash that glass ceiling. I have worked in hr and preliminary screened for jobs with 500+ applicants, we absolutely did discard cvs because we didn't think there name fitted with the corporate image (the can you see that name on a business card test) I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying that's what my boss did (large plc)

I've met Brie, Peach, Brandy, Apple, Sherry, Dijon, Barley and Cherry.

It’s a ridiculous and awful name to lumber a child with. Who’d want that as their name through their adult life? Save the silly names for pets and teddy bears.

That's interesting- especially the bison! Her mother was Susan. Perhaps she changed it-or I'm misremembering? I remember people saying "Seriously? Honeysuckle Hero??" Just like Mumsnet would now! 🤣

They’re all as bad as Honey!

I went to school with a Hunnie. That was her full name on her bc not a nickname for anything

Oh God, the only thing worse than Honey…. Hunnie….! 😵
