What are your views about having Elizabeth on the birth certificate with nickname Betsy for when they are young? Both (and Betty) are family names.
Thank you x

Love it. Love all the names associated with Elizabeth.

Lovely!

My daughter is Elizabeth on her birth certificate, and we call her Betsie. We chose it because we wanted her to have a "grown-up" name she could go with if she wanted to (plus Elizabeth is a family name), and I loved the name Betsie as a nickname.

Lovely, really like it.

Cute!

"Betsy" sounds old fashioned...
How about Beth? Or Libby? Lizzie?

Wrapunzel · 05/10/2023 20:11

I love it and regret not using it for youngest DD

NuffSaidSam · 05/10/2023 20:12

I love Elizabeth. I think Betty is a much better nn though. Also love Libby, Lizzie and Nell.

mynamechangemyrules · 05/10/2023 20:13

My Betsy isn't from Elizabeth (she has another 'grown up' name but quite outing) but everyone comments on how lovely it is. She's quite old now and it still 'works'. She is such a Betsy 😂

YourWinter · 05/10/2023 20:14

I absolutely love Betsy as a nn for Elizabeth.

Nell is a nickname for Helen not a Elizabeth.

I love Bets.

Nell is a nickname for Helen not a Elizabeth.

Nell is a nickname most commonly used for Helen/Helena and Ellen/Eleanor, it came from the saying 'Mine Helen' or 'Mine Ellen's etc (same as Ned and Edward/Edmund etc). It clearly also works for 'Mine Elizabeth' as well. And any name beginning with 'El' in fact.

Blondephantom · 05/10/2023 20:25

It is a classic name but it may well surge in popularity this year.

MyCircumference · 05/10/2023 20:25

kitsuneghost · 05/10/2023 20:35

If you want Betsy, I eoukd call her Betsy
Nicknames are organic and she may end up lizzy, liz or libby

Nicknames are organic, but shortenings of this kind aren't at least not through childhood. She could of course choose a different shortening when she's older, but then any child could choose another name when they're older.

DramaAlpaca · 05/10/2023 20:55

Elizabeth is gorgeous, but Betsy is just too twee for me.

Emmelina · 05/10/2023 20:55

I have a friend who is Elizabeth nn Betsy. It’s a lovely shortening. Lots of nn she can go with later on if she chooses, too. Betty, Betsy, Libby, Lizzy, Beth…

OopsieeDaisy · 05/10/2023 21:25

I love Betsy but for some reason I’m really not keen on Elizabeth!

CharlieBoo · 07/10/2023 00:01

Love Betsy

MerryChristmasToYou · 08/10/2023 19:20

Love Elizabeth and Betsy is pretty cool.
Beth seems very 1980s

ArcticBells · 08/10/2023 19:28

Betsy is short for Betina not Elizabeth
