Stevie for a girl??

I have two DCs called Louis and Robyn. My husband is a Robert Louis Stevenson lover (though the names of our DCs are coincidental) and he thinks it would be funny to name our DD (due in November!) Stevie as a funny little homage to his favourite author.
While I have names I prefer, Stevie is growing on me but I don't know how common it is as a girls' name and I don't want her to be bullied.
Also is it ridiculous to have our three children be called Robyn, Louis and Stevie? Seems a bit obvious, so I'm not sure. But since Louis is the eldest they've always been Louis and Robyn rather than Robyn and Louis.

Would love some advice!

I know a Stevie and she's got Stephanie on birth certificate. Nothing wrong in that name

I would just go with Stevie, it feels very modern and fresh whereas Stephanie feels quite 80s/90s. Plus loads of people will end up calling her Steph.

That's the thing with nicknames, you can't control them.

Not is always introduced as Stevie

Chickenpie35 · 06/10/2023 13:54

I'm 35 now but there was a girl in my primary called Stevie - Leigh and in college I met a Stevie - Lea.
I think it's a lovely name, prefer Stevie alone without the Leigh or lea though xx

I don’t hate it and I can see it being very cool on a little girl, but the ultimate test is always would I want to be called it, and ai don’t think I would to be honest

Potter23 · 06/10/2023 14:46

I had a childhood friend called Stevie, named after Stevie Nicks.
she was a friend in senior school and as far as I’m aware she wasn’t bullied.

I remember thinking it was really cool. I’ve never met another female Stevie.
personally I like it.
My own DC has an unusual name that I’ve seen slated on MN. I think it’s a personal decision, I think name your child what you want, yes they may be teased for their name, but if not a name children who tease will find another thing to tease about.

I think it's pretty, I'm mid 30s and I went to school with a girl Stevie, and although I know men known as Stevie as well, I always think of it as girls name. Stephanie w Stevie as nn is also pretty.

The Robert Louis Stevenson thing is weird but I don't think many people will make the connection.

GirlsAndPenguins · 06/10/2023 16:37

There’s a little girl in my daughters nursery called Stevie and I’ve been thinking how much I like it as a name!
I personally think Stevie is more of a girls name than a boys name

Chaucer53 · 06/10/2023 18:05

My best friend is called Stevie, just Stevie, nothing longer on her birth certificate and I don't think she ever had any issues growing up and it's never really been questioned as an adult either.

Ilikepinacoladass · 06/10/2023 18:12

Prefer Stella, although not sure if that helps 😂

topshotta · 06/10/2023 18:16

No

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/10/2023 19:32

DD would have been Stevie/Stephanie if she hadn't already had an older sibling whose name began with S.

Juno84 · 06/10/2023 19:53

I LOVE the name Stevie for a girl. My midwife was called Stevie. It’s cute for a baby, and it’s a “cool girl” name for when she’s older.

Julesrosti · 06/10/2023 20:12

There are so many baby girl Stevies at the moment!! I have a 15 month old and have met about 5 at baby classes so far. Is it a Fleetwood Mac thing!?

SerafinasGoose · 06/10/2023 20:49

Stevie Nicks is Stephanie Lynn.

Stephanie is lovely, and not currently on the most oft-used names list.

The poet Stevie Smith is from Hull.

She's wonderful.

Her real name is Florence Margaret (Florence is a lovely name too) and she apparently only took on the name Stevie when a contemporary compared her with Steve Donoghue.

Some very, very cool women go by the moniker of Stevie. Nicks has a voice like no one else on earth: love her!

Craycraycatbaby · 06/10/2023 21:31

Yess do it!! I knew a Stevie when I was younger, she didn't get bullied for her name! Is that even a thing?

BadBadDecisions · 06/10/2023 21:36

AliceDownTheRabbitHole · 06/10/2023 08:51

I always think of Stevie as a girls name anyway. Short for Stephanie. Stevie Nicks, Stevie from Schitts Creek. I've never known a boy who's nickname is Stevie

It's common in Scotland. Steve becomes Stevie, Dave often becomes Davie.

JLM1981 · 06/10/2023 21:43

I know two girls called Stevie. One a teenager and one a toddler. Both with a Dad called Steven. Good luck picking 😁

Oldraver · 06/10/2023 21:53

I've known two late 30's Stevie's (one named after her late father) both absolutely lovely people so I'm biased towards it being a lovely girls name

Harry12345 · 06/10/2023 22:04

I love it

FreshAirForwards · 07/10/2023 18:34

Stevie is a great name. I think it will do her well throughout life.

For those worrying that people will think it’s a boys’ name I think you are seriously overestimating the number of youngsters called Stephen/Steven nowadays. I have only taught two Stephen’s in the past 25 years, though there were many in my generation.

fortheloveofflowers · 07/10/2023 18:41

Love Stevie, think it will sound great.

Mammamookin · 07/10/2023 19:05

Good old mumsnet for the stupid and judgemental comments?!
I like it I think it’s cute but it doesn’t really matter what I think it’s your little girls name. People saying give her a ‘full’ name I don’t really get this… they are also prob the same people who say if you are going to shorten a name why not just call the child that in the first place 🙄 Go with what you like x

StevieBRS · 07/10/2023 21:37

My name is Stevie and I get nothing but compliments on it. When I was younger I did get some comments like ‘isn’t that a boys name?’ but I would reply with ‘haven’t you heard of Stevie Nicks?’ and that ended it. Since becoming an adult I’ve only ever had lovely things said about it - people think it is cool :) I say go for it, it’s a great name!
