Stevie for a girl??

I have two DCs called Louis and Robyn. My husband is a Robert Louis Stevenson lover (though the names of our DCs are coincidental) and he thinks it would be funny to name our DD (due in November!) Stevie as a funny little homage to his favourite author.
While I have names I prefer, Stevie is growing on me but I don't know how common it is as a girls' name and I don't want her to be bullied.
Also is it ridiculous to have our three children be called Robyn, Louis and Stevie? Seems a bit obvious, so I'm not sure. But since Louis is the eldest they've always been Louis and Robyn rather than Robyn and Louis.

Would love some advice!

Throwing a spanner in the works if you love Stevie why bother with Stephanie. It’s fine as a stand-alone name and if she is going to be known as Stevie anyway why complicate it.

cornflakesandtea · 05/10/2023 20:28

I know a Stephanie nn Stevie. It suits her so well. She's lovely. I think it's a fab name.

Lovemusic82 · 05/10/2023 20:34

It’s one of my favourite names.

YourWinter · 05/10/2023 20:37

I just think of Stevie Nicks but whatever. Much better to have Stephanie and use Stevie as a nn, which is nicer than Steph.

Polis · 05/10/2023 20:37

I know a Stevie who is in her late 60s. Her full name is Stephanie.

Because it gives the child uncomplicated options later on?

BadBadDecisions · 05/10/2023 20:41

I would just go with Stevie, it feels very modern and fresh whereas Stephanie feels quite 80s/90s. Plus loads of people will end up calling her Steph.

That's the thing with nicknames, you can't control them.

I love Stevie for a girl

ThursdayLastWeek · 05/10/2023 20:50

Me!

Redlarge · 05/10/2023 20:55

I love it

Glad people like it! 😊
I think I'll definitely suggest full name Stephanie but call her Stevie just so she has more options

I agree. I'd also call her Stephie over Stevie

BreatheAndFocus · 05/10/2023 21:39

I grew up with a Stevie, named after the female poet, Stevie Smith (“Not Waving But Drowning). It’s fine for a girl. I prefer it to Steff/Steph as an abbreviation for Stephanie.

Having said that, I’m not so keen on the reason you want to do it.

TemporarilyshyAF · 05/10/2023 21:40

I don't normally care for nicknames as full names but love this! Fan of the Saddle Club and Stevies Wonder and Nicks here so it has good associations.

Can't see why she would be bullied beyond the potential for kids to find amusement in absolutely any normal name.

Stephanie is nice but she may well end up going by Steph. Consider whether you like this nickname before going for the full version.

The girl in saddle club was Stephanie

Daisybuttercup12345 · 05/10/2023 21:48

Stephanie with nn Stevie is much better.

Moomoomo · 05/10/2023 21:48

I have an Eve that has developed into Stevie over the years. She is still quite wee though so she may revert back to Eve as she grows up.

BlowDryRat · 05/10/2023 22:17

I know a preschool age Stevie. She's fabulous - really suits her name.

I say go for it.

Twelve8Ts · 05/10/2023 22:28

Stevie is lovely. Laura Whitmore also picked this I believe! I think it’s nice for an older child too.

I can honestly say I do not know one boy called Stevie?! And as for bulling, kids will get picked on for having all sorts of names. How about teach your kids not to be bullies?

caringcarer · 05/10/2023 23:10

My friend' s DD is called Stephanie but her nn is Stevie.

GreatGardenstuff · 06/10/2023 05:44

i think it’s a really cool name. I only think of Stevie Nicks and a girl at DS nursery. Love the RLS reference!

Mamma2017 · 06/10/2023 05:45

Is your husband utterly obsessed with this author? Naming all 3 children after them? (It’d be “funny” to make a “little” homage to this author-what again? 🤦🏼‍♀️) Coincidence? Hmm lol.
Stevie is a nice name for a girl though imo.

Stevie is gorgeous. (My nieces name her parents are well known though so she will be going to private school though this makes me think less teasing)

Wow, judgmental, classist and actually just not true.

Baffled1989 · 06/10/2023 06:35

The only female Stevie I know was a wicked bully!

NancyJoan · 06/10/2023 06:37

Makes me think of the writer Stevie Smith, who I love, but was actually called Florence. It’s a great name!

Ste0511 · 06/10/2023 06:51

I’m a Stephanie and would have loved to been called Stevie for short!! I’m mostly a Steph and never had the confidence to ask to be called Stevie
