When I was young, we had a Nemo join our school. Born before the film was even made.

She was a lovely girl (I'm sure she still is!) And I adore her name.

Mumaway · 11/01/2024 14:44

Most of the ' unique ' names I have ever come across are relatively popular names bodged together. I w nt to school with a Lynnann ( which is just a pair of middle names ) and a Lee-amy.

KirstenBlest · 14/01/2024 13:54

Can't say because it would out me but I can think of 4. The names AFAIK are one-offs. 2 of them are very similar to known, uncommon names and fairly similar to each other in letters (something like Laylie and Lilees), one is part of an usual name backwards (e.g, Alebana), and the other one is a sort of slang/nickname given as a name (e.g. Dude).
The first 3 are from LMC families, the last one comfortably-off WC (last baby of the brood, siblings have fairly usual names).

Zapss · 14/01/2024 21:43

Melina/Melaena (as in poo with blood in it).

You mean melena, for the poo and it's actually black poo.

Melina is greek in origin and derived from a word meaning honey. It also traveled a but around the continent so you can find/hear it in various countries.

I know a young boy called Eric, I said to DH that's old fashioned, as soon as I said it I realised dad was a Man United fan.

Paxton
Tudor.
Different schools from my childhood.

Paxton was an annoying little sh*t

Tudor was lovely.

Tudor is a Welsh name. Not so common now, but a few of my parents' friends were Tudors.

Veescience · 07/04/2024 19:57

Phila Delphia for a girl

King for a boy

KirstenBlest · 07/04/2024 20:02

@KnickerlessParsons It's an anglicised name. The Welsh form, Tudur, is more popular nowadays.
I know a few Tudors.
