Middle name for Rupert?

miniworry · 17/09/2023 19:39

We have decided to call our baby Rupert, but want to name him Roo whilst he is younger, but Rupert on his birth certificate gives him the option to use Rupert when he feels he wants to.

Can anyone suggest any middle names that go well with Rupert but also work well for Roo aswell?

😂

HamstersAreMyLife · 17/09/2023 19:45

Bear
I wouldn't worry about it going with Roo too much, its very rare for people to say both first and middle names out loud.

Berlinlover · 17/09/2023 19:47

Please don’t name your child Rupert, it’s just cruel.

JumbledE · 17/09/2023 19:47

Rupert James
Rupert Peter
Rupert Thomas
Rupert Alexander
Rupert Alistair
Rupert Gregory

😊

miniworry · 17/09/2023 19:50

@Berlinlover we actually really like the name and the post wasn't to ask people's opinions on whether they liked it or not. I appreciate people don't agree on names but that comment wasn't helpful.

Well no, you can’t call him Roo as a full name..

Patrick
Alistair
Laurence
Philip

Rupert is quite a strong flavour so you probably want something a bit more neutral in case he doesn’t like it.

roarrfeckingroar · 17/09/2023 19:54

James

cherryassam · 17/09/2023 19:56

I think most fairly traditional names work well with Rupert - if you are ever going to use just Roo with the middle name, I think having a constant sound at the start of the middle sounds better to me

Rupert Christopher
Rupert Lawrence
Rupert Theodore
Rupert Henry
Rupert Nicholas
Rupert Michael
Rupert David
Rupert Daniel
Rupert Joseph
Rupert Jacob
Rupert Samuel
Rupert Zachary
Rupert Thomas
Rupert Timothy
Rupert Caleb
Rupert Calvin
Rupert Christian
Rupert Dominic
Rupert Sebastian
Rupert William
Rupert Wilfred
Rupert Frederick
Rupert Gabriel
Rupert Callum
Rupert Winston
Rupert Harrison
Rupert Jonathan
Rupert Leonard
Rupert Victor
Rupert Benjamin

Why on earth not? Not that common, granted, but it's a perfectly normal name. I know three - from age 8 up to about 50.

miniworry · 17/09/2023 19:59

@cherryassam wow this is a great list thank you so much!!

When I say we will call him Roo whilst he is younger, I mean as a nickname- school reports etc will be Rupert but we will probably only call him it when he's in trouble 😂

Why is it cruel?. It's a perfectly acceptable old name. People call their children much worse names
I know a very cute 3 year old Rupert.

miniworry · 17/09/2023 20:01

@BrightGreenTomatoes thank you for this, that's one of the reasons that we like it, we don't want a hugely common boys name and as a headteacher I have so many boys names I just couldn't ever use without thinking of select kids

We already have a Luna so thought Luna and Rupert went well together..

As it’s a standard traditional name (I like it, was going to call our child the name), then you can get away with a more unusual middle name. Is there a family name, or similar you might want to use? At nursery there is a Rupert with middle name Ziggy, and is referred to as Ziggy by the parents. Most of the time, nobody uses their middle name at all. I wish we didn’t give our child a middle name as have quite a long surname and they have a strong first name - I think not giving a middle name would have sounded cleaner.

itsgettingweird · 17/09/2023 20:26

Rupert James was my first thought.

Roo James works too.

Rupert/ Roo Jack
Rupert/Roo George
Rupert/Roo Thomas
Rupert/Roo Matthew
Rupert/Roo Sebastian

Personally I prefer 1 Dylan me names but classic names all seem to go well

itsgettingweird · 17/09/2023 20:26

Syllable

itsgettingweird · 17/09/2023 20:27

1 syllable middle names. Seem to have lost my ability to communicate 🤣

miniworry · 17/09/2023 20:49

@itsgettingweird I agree with the syllable idea, thanks so much!

Amazing no one has said The.

I used to dislike the name Rupert and then I taught a gorgeous one. I'm a big fan now.

Phos · 18/09/2023 08:53

Rupert is one of those names that has certain connotations but if you’re ok with that, I think it needs quite a plain, traditional middle name. Avoid Henry though.

Rupert James
Rupert Daniel
Rupert George
Rupert William
Rupert Mark
Rupert Oliver
Rupert Andrew (there you’ve got Roo-Roo!)

Sausage1989 · 18/09/2023 10:39

Oh I know, I know
Rupert Redbreast
Rupert Bomstooklepip The 3rd
Rupert Rigsby (as in Leonard Rossiter)
