What are your thoughts on Julian?

Too dated or due a come back?

Also do you think it risks being shortened to J. I really don't want a name that is shortened to J so have already ruled out many J names, but Julian seems safer?

No, I don’t like it.

QueeniePlumtree · 17/09/2023 08:47

I like Julian.

More likely to be shortened to Jules than J/Jay I think. However, you can never control the nn's people will give them.

Thatsmorethanhalf · 17/09/2023 08:48

I prefer Jules tbh

Lorelaigilmore88 · 17/09/2023 08:50

Julian is lovely and not too common. I think it will likely be shortened to Jules when he's older but jules as a nickname is nice!

Torganer · 17/09/2023 08:58

I really like it.

Cinai · 17/09/2023 08:59

Love it

EstieGreenwood · 17/09/2023 08:59

I like it!

7Worfs · 17/09/2023 09:01

I like it because of the Star Trek character (Julian Bashir)

LucyAnnTrent · 17/09/2023 09:04

I think it's a lovely, classic name. I only know one Julian and he is always called Julian (no nickname as far as I know).

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 17/09/2023 09:11

I love Julian, I know one who was born last year. Think he's Jules to his parents.

Sleepnplay · 17/09/2023 09:16

Really love it, I've known 2 and both were lovely, so positive associations for me.

HappyCatty · 17/09/2023 09:30

I don't like it, but that's probably because my BIL is called that and he's a twonk.

sawnotseen · 17/09/2023 10:51

I'm in my 50s and know two of Similar age to me. One goes by Julian and the other by Jules. I prefer Jules.

Tiespin · 17/09/2023 10:54

My grandson's name

FionnulaTheCooler · 17/09/2023 10:56

I like Julian but I hate Jules.

VenusClapTrap · 17/09/2023 11:45

Love it. I know one who gets called Jules (but he prefers the full name) and one who uses Ju.

Mouthfulofquiz · 17/09/2023 11:46

I really like it

NotFastButFurious · 17/09/2023 12:59

It’s awful and the only one I know (in his 50’s) goes by a nickname that it’s completely unrelated to Julian! Jules is a more female nn for Julia / Julie / Juliana to me.

Freenpock · 17/09/2023 13:19

I have a Julian, who is now 6. We’ve met one other younger Julian and heard of a couple of others. We love the name: it’s unusual but always well received.

It suits him wonderfully and we’ve never shortened it. If we did, it would be to Jules.

MerryChristmasToYou · 17/09/2023 17:13

Dislike it.

continentallentil · 17/09/2023 18:36

It’s a little dated but perfectly usable

Julius is more current and nicer IMO

I think Jules is much more likely than J

peaceinourtime · 19/09/2023 14:40

Nice. I think Jules is the most likely shorting of the name.

MariePaperRoses · 19/09/2023 14:43

I have a lovely friend called Julian. His middle name is Robert.

He is never called J but I and other close friends call him Jules occasionally which sounds feminine but he isn't remotely feminine!

Beamur · 19/09/2023 14:45

I'm not keen. I have two adult friends with this name (nice blokes) one goes by Jules and the other uses his middle name instead

mathanxiety · 19/09/2023 15:00

I find it a little wet.
