Little one due in two weeks and like both of these names. Which do you prefer?

Thanks!

Frozenie?

Annie

Scruffington · 17/09/2023 18:12

I find Elsie a bit too cutsie. She belongs in a 1930s illustration of a chubby cheeked child. So of the two I'd probably go for Annie.

I actually had a discussion last week with a friend about how all the 'nice' female leads in American films are either called Annie or Kate.

Annie

Check darkgreener, but I think Annie is very popular now, whereas Elsie was very popular a few years ago.

I probably prefer Annie, but I like it better as a nn with Annelise / Anna etc as a full name

beetlebrain · 17/09/2023 18:27

What about Edith?

geminiflanagan · 17/09/2023 18:29

Annie. I'd be inclined to go for Anna but then call her Annie

PollyPeep · 17/09/2023 18:31

Annie is lovely. You don't hear it much anymore, but Elsie is trendy at the moment.

vintagechristmas · 17/09/2023 20:05

Both names are lovely. But I think Annie is just beautiful.

Do you like Alice/ Eliza?

I have a real soft spot for Annie, I think it’s a really lovely name

DramaAlpaca · 17/09/2023 22:31

Annie. It's great, suits all ages.

Elsie is both cutesy and frumpy in my view, which isn't a good combination.

Bitingspaniel · 17/09/2023 22:34

My Elsie is 13 :) and she's definitely neither cutesy or frumpy 😆. It's a great name and really suits her. We thought she could be 'Elle' if Elsie felt too girly, but so far that's not been needed!

DramaAlpaca · 17/09/2023 22:53

Glad to hear it @Bitingspaniel Grin Your Elsie sounds awesome.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 18/09/2023 19:34

Annie.

Pemba · 18/12/2023 14:56

Annie is lovely.

Elsie is still so old lady-ish, despite all the new little ones.

SallyWD · 18/12/2023 15:01

I much prefer Annie

Doublebiscuit77 · 18/12/2023 15:24

Elsie. I love Anna (and Elsa although I think Frozen is putting people off) but Elsie has a nicer sound to me than Annie.

Jins · 18/12/2023 15:26

Annie

dressedforcomfort · 18/12/2023 15:56

Annie! One of my favourite names.

Westxwest · 18/12/2023 16:26

…or else what?

Libertyy · 18/12/2023 16:28

Annie sounds too much like granny just ruins it for me. Elsie is better personally

Thetwilightscone · 18/12/2023 16:40

Annie is a nickname to me. I would go for Anna or Anne and call her Annie.

On the contrary Elsie literally IS a granny name.
