Little one due in two weeks and like both of these names. Which do you prefer?

Thanks!

On the contrary Elsie literally IS a granny name.

I also know someone nick named Granny Annie so it ruins it for me lol

CharlieBoo · 18/12/2023 18:05

Annie is not a classic.. Ann/Anne is classic. Annie is a nn.

Id choose Elsie I think

Borgonzola · 18/12/2023 18:18

These were my two names, and I have an Annie Smile I absolutely love it

buttercupcake · 18/12/2023 18:20

I like Annie, reminds me of Annie Banks in Father of the Bride.

Borgonzola · 18/12/2023 18:20

(Nicknames for the two I had in mind - was going to go Elisabeth or Antonia, nn Elsie or Annie, and went with Antonia)

Umm nobody claimed it was a classic. Yes Annie is short for Anne/Anna which ARE classics, but can also be given as a name in its own right.

Elsie is also a shortening... for Elspeth, that's the origin of the name.

Annie 10000%

makeminealargeoneagain · 18/12/2023 20:17

Annie

Spyrothedragonn · 18/12/2023 21:59

Annie but prefer Anna, Anya and Anoushka

CharlieBoo · 18/12/2023 22:56

@Pemba a few people on this thread have said it’s a classic, I’m just stating my opinion that it’s not. Neither is Elsie.

Viviennemary · 18/12/2023 23:12

I really like both names. Marginally prefer Elsie.

Seamist22 · 18/12/2023 23:13

I like Annie best

resm · 18/12/2023 23:58

I know of two little ones under 2 with these names and I think both are lovely, but Annie definitely has the edge for me.

I can’t put my finger on why, maybe because I love the name Anna and Annie from Anna or Anne/Ann has a few options so seems like the more substantial name.

Copperoliverbear · 19/12/2023 00:02

Elsie one of my favourites x

Copperoliverbear · 19/12/2023 00:03

I don't like Annie it reminds me of the film.

LauderSyme · 19/12/2023 00:12

I like Elsie, I think it's lovely.

Sorry, I am not keen on Annie. I'd prefer Anna.

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 19/12/2023 00:15

To the poster who said Annie is too popular - its definitely not. It’s not in the top 100 names. I think it’s currently around 250.
Elsie is a faddy name. It is popular so will date quickly as did Bethany, Ellie, Emily, Ella.
Annie is a great name. Only ever met two in my life. One had the sweetest nature and was exceptionally pretty. The other was a character. They both stick in my mind. Go for Annie it’s lovely and won’t date.
I work in a primary school and we have never had one enrolled during the 15 plus years I’ve worked there.

Jelly4444 · 19/12/2023 00:16

Anna or Elsa(yes I know!❄️ ) with Annie or Elsie as nicknames.

Personally I would pick Anna.

SirenSays · 19/12/2023 00:19

Not a fan of either. Annie is an orphan, Elsie is a cow.

mathanxiety · 19/12/2023 00:36

Annie.

Elsie is a milkmaid name.

Jins · 19/12/2023 08:55

Annie was certainly used as a name in the 1910’s as I have several in my family tree and so does DH. There were a few Annies in my school and in my DSs schools but I haven’t come across one younger than 8 or 9. I’ve come across loads of 4 year old Elsies recently but the only other one I know is in her late 80s.

lavenderjump · 19/12/2023 10:14

Annie! Elsie is a bit cutesy
