Is Sabrina not classic enough?

I go back and forth on Sabrina, but the past couple of months it has been my favourite.

Now I am worried it is dated? Most Sabrinas would be in the 20s and 30s, I suppose.

On the other hand it is quite old and there are some classic movies that feature Sabrinas.

Other names on the list are more along the lines of Ava and Grace.

I like it a lot - my mind does auto-complete with The Teenage Witch after it though, which probably shows my age.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 10/09/2023 17:47

It’s a very old name, it was Milton’s name for the River Severn in Comus. She was a benevolent and powerful deity….

Sprogonthetyne · 10/09/2023 17:48

I also instantly think 'The teenage witch', but other kids won't make that connection and anyone old enough to have grown up watching it will hopefully be polite enough not to say.

Nap1983 · 10/09/2023 17:49

I like it! But I'm too of the Sabrina the teenage witch era. I think its nice and unusual without being crazy

HarrietJet · 10/09/2023 17:50

It's nice enough, but no way is it a classic.

GloomySkies · 10/09/2023 17:51

I also think Teenage Witch, but that's not really a bad thing. It was an Aubrey Hepburn film in the 50s, so it's not a new name. I think it's quite pretty.

ShowOfHands · 10/09/2023 17:52

I like it and it's a bit different. The world doesn't need another Ava or Grace.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 10/09/2023 17:52

Sabrina is a beautiful name & I'd use it

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 10/09/2023 17:54

I think of Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina. It's beautiful. My best friend in High School was a Sabrina who went by Brie.

NoraLuka · 10/09/2023 17:55

It also means ‘patience’ in Arabic.

I like it (it happens to be DD’s name!)

17caterpillars1mouse · 10/09/2023 17:58

I really like Sabrina and I grew up as a big Sabrina the teenage witch fan, but I feel enough time has past that it could be uses for a child and the association not be relevant.

Much nicer and more interesting than Ava and Grace.

Tracker1234 · 10/09/2023 17:59

It’s lovely. Heburn was the most beautiful woman and it was one of her key roles. My wedding dress was described as very Audrey Heburn which I took as a huge compliment.

KnobbingtonKnobberson · 10/09/2023 17:59

I love the name Sabrina and far prefer it to Ava or Grace which seem a bit overdone at this stage.

What names are true classics anyway? Anne, Elizabeth, or Catherine? Nothing that wrong with those names as such, but I personally find them frumpy and dull.

Call her Sabrina.

sparklefresh · 10/09/2023 18:02

Ava and Grace are nice but so, so ubiquitous. Sabrina won't be the fifth one in her class.

cherryassam · 10/09/2023 18:02

I’m not sure it came across in my post, but I definitely don’t think the Sabrina the Teenage Witch thing is bad, just it’s definitely what comes to mind.

I don’t think it’s in the cultural consciousness at all for anyone under about 25 I reckon. The new show didn’t seem to become a thing really.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 10/09/2023 18:04

Teenage Witch.
Selina?

weeRagamuffin · 10/09/2023 18:07

I like it but I prefer just ''Sabine''. Is that a name or did i make it up?

it's a proper name. pronounced sa-bee-na. (I think)

It's quite popular in Germany and indeed pronounced like that. Perhaps slightly dated but definitely still in active use.

SlashBeef · 10/09/2023 18:35

Names like Ava and Grace are everywhere at the moment. There's always multiple in a school. They're nice enough but just a bit unremarkable now. Sabrina is lovely. I wouldn't worry about it being classic or not.

DemBonesDemBones · 10/09/2023 18:39

Love it! Also love Serena.

DramaAlpaca · 10/09/2023 18:42

It's a beautiful, elegant name for sure.

Classic, though? I don't see it that way. It's never been popular enough to be considered classic, but I really don't think that matters.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 10/09/2023 21:04

I prefer Sabine.

DanceMumTaxi · 10/09/2023 21:26

Another one who instantly thinks ‘Teenage witch’ too. I do like it though. How about Serena as an alternative?

purpleme12 · 10/09/2023 21:28

Sabrina is ace.
And all the better for being linked to Sabrina the Teenage Witch! Love that show!!
