Are Lily and Lucy too similar to be sibling names?

Dd is a Lily and we are considering naming our second daughter Lucy but I'm concerned they sound/look too similar. Thoughts?

Personally I wouldn't. I would also avoid any name starting with L.

Positive41 · 08/09/2023 13:29

I think those are lovely sibling names.

piglet81 · 08/09/2023 13:30

Too matchy for my taste

LlynTegid · 08/09/2023 13:30

I think too similar myself.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/09/2023 13:31

No I think its fine. Same number of letters and the same classy vintage yet modern vibe. Its not like the same sound in the middle is it eh I know someone with a Lily and a Lydia and a Jodie and Jodie. They don't work in my opinion but who am I.

PinkRoses1245 · 08/09/2023 13:33

I think it's too matchy.

KirstenBlest · 08/09/2023 15:17

They're too close and sort of clash.

Fourunderfourx · 08/09/2023 21:27

I actually think they go well together and sound cute, they both start with L but different sounds

SemperIdem · 08/09/2023 21:29

I think they work, sound wise.

Beaverbridge · 08/09/2023 21:30

I love both of them, esp Lucy. I love all L names.

SkaneTos · 08/09/2023 21:43

I like the names Lily and Lucy together!

user1497864954 · 08/09/2023 21:47

Too similar. Some people think this sort of idea is cute but I think that the possibility of mistakes between medical records, letters sent (admittedly fewer these days), to me it seems like you see them as one of a set rather than two individuals who are entitled to be recognised as individuals. The girls growing up next door to me growing up were Lisa and Louise, to this day, 50 later I have to keep thinking which one was the older? I'd advise something else.

Jodie and Jodie?! The same name?!

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 08/09/2023 21:50

Too too much with 2 letters out of 4 the same and beginning with the same letter and ending with the same letter

NuffSaidSam · 08/09/2023 21:51

I think they're too similar. It's like you just like one sound and you've used your favourite name that makes that sound, so Lucy is just the second best name that sounds the largely the same.

UsefulSmartPrettyHappy · 08/09/2023 21:54

Lily and Lucy don't work together.

Lily and Lucille or Lily and Louise?

UsefulSmartPrettyHappy · 08/09/2023 21:55

Lily and Ruby?

Thatsmorethanhalf · 08/09/2023 21:59

Lily and Lulu? - don’t know why that should be better than Lucy really

Notquitegrownup2 · 08/09/2023 22:01

It will be a pain for them when they get older and keep opening each other's post to Miss L Smith or whatever. Is there a longer name which can be abbreviated to Lily? Elizabeth can be shortened to Lily . . .

NeedTheSeaside · 08/09/2023 22:03

I wouldn't choose them both, but at the same time they're not awful together if the each mean something to you (like both grandmothers) OR you both love godmother & agree on them

Best wishes with DD2

BeMoreBarbie · 08/09/2023 22:13

It's cute and I would do it. The problem is people will be saying the wrong name. DD and I have the same ending, both two syllables and start with a vowel (not Ada and Eva but similar and less alike) and it confuses the fuck out of people.

Birdsongsinging · 08/09/2023 22:16

They sound good together 😊

MrsPositivity1 · 08/09/2023 22:48

I like them. Give them 2nd names and use both names for official documentation. When they then get post it will be addressed to Miss Lily M Bloggs or Miss Lucy G Bloggs etc...

This is what I did with my 2

Birdiboo · 08/09/2023 23:45

They are lovely together and I don’t think they are too similar at all. Some people don’t like same initial name for children but loads of people do it and both my parents and brother all had same initials and they were fine - I don’t remember there being any mixups with doctors/bank etc.

and if you think about it, there are so many fathers and sons with the same name too.

IMO Lily and Lucy sound like a lovely pair

Marcipex · 08/09/2023 23:51

I think they’re too matchy.

Lily and Posy
Lily and Marnie
Lily and Zara
