Variation of Karen for a boy

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and my mum died unexpectedly 4 weeks ago. Her name was Karen and me and husband would LOVE to honour her as our babies middle name but he's a boy.

Does anyone have any ideas how we can make a more masculine version of Karen?

So sorry for your loss, what a heartwarming tribute to your mum.

Kevin??

Thecountdownn · 26/08/2023 20:22

I am sorry for the loss of your mum. The first name that came to mind was Caillan, possibly spelt with a K?

Kay?

as mentioned upthread, Karen is derived from Katherine, meaning pure

Kay also means pure

annahay · 26/08/2023 20:40

Perhaps she had a close male relative whos name you could use?

We would have loved to honour my father in law but we had a girl so gave her her great grandmothers name as a middle name.

CorvusPurpureus · 26/08/2023 20:42

I'm going to be working with a teenage girl this year who is Fairlyfrillygirlname Very80sblokename Surname.

Think Isabella Wayne Bloggs - not that, obviously, but similar vibe.

I know from her mum that she lost her dh to an accident when she was pregnant, so I'm guessing he was called 'Wayne' & their daughter has it as a middle name to remember her dad.

I think it's rather nice, actually.

So I'd just give ds 'Karen' as his middle name.

The girl I'll be teaching will just be 'Izzy Bloggs' to 90% of anyone she ever encounters, honestly. Middle names are absolutely FOR honouring relatives with unfashionable names &/or the 'out there' names you chickened out of inflicting as first names.

Danielle9891 · 26/08/2023 20:43

I'm sorry for your loss.

I'd say Cieran (can be spelt Kieran for a more English/American way) or cillian.

Did she have a middle name?

Countingdowntochristmas · 26/08/2023 20:48

Kyran

EducatingArti · 26/08/2023 20:52

Karo? I knew a west African Karo (male).

backoffbuster · 26/08/2023 20:54

karen —> Ren—> Lawrence

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 26/08/2023 20:55

My mum used Darren for Karen (she was also using it in memory of someone she loved).

Alexa51 · 26/08/2023 21:00

I think Ren is very cute. Perhaps as a middle name? Callum is nice. I also like Kit. Perhaps you could use the initial? Or select a longer name and shorten it to one of the above. I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my Mum 3 years ago and it is very tough. Xx

Mystismum · 26/08/2023 21:01

My name is very similar to (but not exactly) Karen and I get called Kieran a LOT.

HuckleberryBlackcurrant · 26/08/2023 21:03

Something that rhymes? Darren, Arron, Taron

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 26/08/2023 21:07

Caron

Sorry for your loss, thats very sad. I do like the name Kanye

Mikimoto · 26/08/2023 21:09

Karen is also used for men in some countries e.g. the tennis player Karen Kachanov.

Tweedlelove · 26/08/2023 21:09

Kailen or Callun Kaiden kian
Im sorry for your loss

Riv · 26/08/2023 21:15

Lots of good ideas on this thread. I’d just be wary of Cain or Kain if you live in a broadly Christian area. Cain was the first son of Adam and Eve (Christians and Jews believe they were the first humans) and he murdered his brother out of jealousy.

Naominumbers · 26/08/2023 21:24
