Hello

We're due with our second girl in a few months, I've been through so many thousands of name lists and I just can't find "the one". My top favourite is Linnea but we have an unusual last name so I'm worried about giving her two names she has to spell and tell people how to pronounce for her entire life. My husband loves Clara but it's not sitting right with me. I've tried all the obvious variations I can think of like Lara, Cara, Lily of etc but again none of them feel right. Any suggestions would be gratefully received! We did tend to lean towards the old classics like Victoria and Charlotte before those two floated to the front if that helps! Many thanks!

I’ve only ever known one Linnea, a little girl from Germany. I think if you’ve been through thousands of names and haven’t found anything you like as much then just use it!
I’d say Sacha, Freya, Leona and Claudia maybe have a similar vibe but names are so subjective I could easily be on the wrong track!

why not go with Lynn as her given name (Welsh origin meaning waterfall or pool) and call her Linnea at home?

But personally I think I'd stick with Linnea, it's such a lovely name it would be a shame not to use it. Or another near option would be Leandra?

DuchessOfSausage · 24/08/2023 08:39

Use Linnea. I think it's a name that looks better than it sounds but it doesn't look too difficult.

I'm guessing that you'd say it as Lynn-ay-ah

Tenpintonpin · 24/08/2023 08:41

Linnet, if you're happy to go old-fashioned?!

DuchessOfSausage · 24/08/2023 08:41

why not go with Lynn as her given name (Welsh origin meaning waterfall or pool) ...
That is probably from a baby name site and is unlikely to be true.

lululongdog · 24/08/2023 08:46

Ummm, llyn is Welsh for lake @DuchessOfSausage , so it's perfectly true 😉

violetcuriosity · 24/08/2023 08:48

Lilia, Lyndall

DuchessOfSausage · 24/08/2023 08:50

@lululongdog , llyn isn't pronounced Lyn, waterfall is rhaeadr. Llyn is also a masculine noun.

CurlewKate · 24/08/2023 08:52

She will be Linn the minute she starts school-you really need to factor that in.

Nannyfannybanny · 24/08/2023 08:54

Just reminds me of school mathematics. What about Lilly

DuchessOfSausage · 24/08/2023 09:06

@Nannyfannybanny , she mentioned Lily in the OP, and the Lilly spelling of the name is making Lily more complicated.

I'd suggest Linnet, but there will be some who'll say it as Lynette

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 24/08/2023 09:08

Lavinia?

CurlewKate · 24/08/2023 09:14

Why would you spell Lily as Lilly?

@CurlewKate , because Lily is very popular, and Lilly is a little bit different.
Make it stand out a bit more by spelling it Lili or Lillie, and possibly adding -Mai/-Mae

** Those are valid names and spellings.

Surely that just sets her up for a life of misspelling and being judged for having a ‘chav name.’

Linnet?

Whippetmama · 24/08/2023 16:05

Thank you everyone for your replies! I'm sorry I'm not adept enough with technology to figure out how to reply individually but thank you to everyone! Some good names here for me to think about, none have leapt out immediately to me like my first little girl's name did (Phoebe - Good shout MumofGirls!) But maybe that's not to be with this one and I need to let them stew! I did love Lily but my friends Frenchie is called it and I'm afraid once you've seen that cute but wrinkled little snout with that name it's really hard to unsee haha! X
