Eliza mae

I realise how common mae is.. it seems like every child is either mae or rose.

What do you think of this name
Hubbys and mine grandmothers were called Elizabeth and Margaret. I thought it would be a lovely nod to them. We wanted something more trendy so shortened as we didn't want her having an old lady names compared to her friends.

Eliza is great, Mae is truly awful. Hardly anyone uses middle names on a daily basis anyway, I'd go with Eliza Margaret.
Or Eliza Margo?

Literally this. Every word.

Whataretheodds · 18/08/2023 15:09

Eliza Meg?

Whataretheodds · 18/08/2023 15:10

Or just call her Eliza Margaret.
Or Margot-Beth

Totally agree. Eliza is lovely, Mae or even worse a hyphenated Mae is just tacky. Eliza Margaret would be great.

Twizbe · 18/08/2023 15:17

Eliza is lovely, but I’d use the full name of Elizabeth. It’s such a timeless, undatebale classic.

Every other girl at the moment has a name I’d call very old lady. All the Ivy, Ada, Margots etc.

Also remember that she will be a child for a very short amount of her life. Name the adult not the baby.

RitzyMcFitzy · 18/08/2023 15:20

I think Eliza Mae sounds fine, as long as Mae is the middle name and she'd just be known as Eliza day-to-day.

Eliza Mae, Ellie Mae, Daisy Mae etc. sound way too cutsie for anyone over the age of 4. Plus it feels very 2010.

EnglandIsPoorNow · 18/08/2023 15:24

There are tonnes of Lola-Maes Lily-Maes Ella-Maes in DDs year. It's been done to death and could do with half a century long break. JMO. Love Eliza.

shoopshoopdedoo · 18/08/2023 16:25

I think I’m in the minority, but I really dislike Eliza. I think it sounds kind of harsh. I love both Elizabeth and Margaret and would use the two original names.

Elizabeth Margaret
Margaret Elizabeth

groovergirl · 18/08/2023 17:01

Go with Elizabeth Margaret or vice versa. No need to make classic names trendy, and she'll have plenty of nicknames to choose from. (I love Libby, and Meg too.)

Mae is dire. It looks trashy, and when screeched in triphthong across a school playground is such an awful aural experience. Please don't do it to your sweet baby.

PalaceOfThePanda · 18/08/2023 18:59

Mae is just dull it’s so over done. Eliza is a popular name, and lots of girls have ‘old lady’ names. They’re all back in fashion.

Lisbeth50 · 18/08/2023 19:03

Agree with Mae not being a good choice.

Eliza Margaret
Eliza Margot
Eliza Molly

All sound good.

Nevermay · 18/08/2023 19:04

Why not Elizabeth Margaret? Then she could choose a shortened version of Elizabeth that she likes herself - Lizzy, Liz, Eliza, Ellie, Beth, Betty, what ever

TetrapanaxRex · 18/08/2023 19:06

Eliza Mae sounds like she belongs in the Beverley Hillbilly's.

mamaduckbone · 18/08/2023 19:45

How about Eliza Maggie? I agree with others that Mae is done to death at this point.

marshmallowfinder · 18/08/2023 19:48

I dislike Eliza. The e gets too easily dropped in speech, so they end up as 'Liza. Mae is awful. Give her her own name. A nod to this, a nod to that...it's not necessary. She's her own person. Her great grandmothers are no less special if you don't use their names.

Absolutelynotfornow · 18/08/2023 19:49

Eliza yes
Mae No

Sandysandwich · 18/08/2023 19:50

Eliza is a brilliant name and Mae goes well with it as a middle name and is probably the best you can get out of Margaret

Minglemangle007 · 18/08/2023 19:51

Elizabeth Anne?

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/08/2023 20:07

Not keen on Eliza. Mae is dreadful.
I like Elizabeth and Margaret.
I'd use Elizabeth Margaret, and use Eliza as a short form.

PerspiringElizabeth · 18/08/2023 20:09

Love it! Maybe loads of kids have Mae as a middle name but I don’t know any of my kids’ school friends’ middle names so why would they know hers? Who cares.

Also my kids bloody love meeting other kids with their names 😍

MerryChristmasToYou · 18/08/2023 20:09

Mae isn't a form of Margaret, but May was traditionally a diminutive of Mary.

Margaret had diminutives like Maggie, Margo, Daisy and Greta - all of which are ok

RosaSkye · 18/08/2023 20:14

I don’t hate Mae but i’d hands down go for

Margo Elizabeth

or

Eliza Margaret

AuntieEsther · 18/08/2023 20:23

Mae is naff and it's not Margaret so it doesn't mean anything. Eliza or Elizabeth Margaret.

I am my own person but live the fact that I have my great grandmothers name
