I realise how common mae is.. it seems like every child is either mae or rose.

What do you think of this name
Hubbys and mine grandmothers were called Elizabeth and Margaret. I thought it would be a lovely nod to them. We wanted something more trendy so shortened as we didn't want her having an old lady names compared to her friends.

In which case the Baby Names board Mae (see what I did there) as well not exist.

Unless you want a series of 'do whatever you like' responses.

Fair enough….. she asked opinions and I gave it. Would I call my child Eliza or Mae or Elizabeth or Margaret not a chance in hell, but If OP likes it who cares?? I don’t care what other people think of my childs names, I was just offering my opinion christ

Eliza very nice, Mae is terrible

Elizabeth is v popular right now, so I’d just go for Elizabeth Margaret nn Eliza, but Eliza Margot is also v nice

GLmum · 19/08/2023 17:18

Sorry, I'm with the others. Eliza is lovely, Mae im afraid not.

I do like Eliza Margot though!

Yes to Eliza .
No to Mae.
If you must have May spell it with a Y.
Margaret is a lovely name and would make a great second name ; if you really don't like it then Peggy or Daisy.

yikesanotherbooboo · 19/08/2023 17:32

I prefer Elizabeth to Eliza but both are good in my book.

Moveoverdarlin · 19/08/2023 17:33

May is bad. Mae is even worse.

Elizabeth Margot is absolutely beautiful.

yikesanotherbooboo · 19/08/2023 17:35

Having explained why you have chosen Mae it is more understandable .It's a nice story and people rarely use second names anyway.

RuthW · 19/08/2023 17:49

It's lovely.

I'd go with Elizabeth Daisy

Agree 🌼🌼🌼

Eliza is great
Mae is awful- but even worse with a hyphen

Eliza Margaret is great IMO. I wouldn’t use it as a first name but Margaret is fabulous. I know one in her 30s, suits her so well.

Lisbeth50 · 20/08/2023 11:04

Now you've mentioned that the Grandmother Margaret was know as Mae, I've changed my mind a little. It's different if it has a meaning behind it. Did she really spell it like that though?

Eliza May or Elizabeth May could work.

VenusClapTrap · 20/08/2023 11:20

I’d go for Eliza Marguerite. Lovely name.

Eliza Mae sounds like she belongs in the Beverley Hillbilly's.

So true🤣
